Thanks, rhino! knew there had to be name for what I was doing! i like flat grinding, and the vertical flat grinding workd great for certain types of blades, u just have to be extremely careful, esp near the tip. It forces me to go slower sometimes so I don't accidentally grind the tip too thin, so it helps me learn to control the grinding more. And polishing up is a breeze this way, too
