Flat-ground G10 Delica

I also vote for linerless G10. The liner should be necessary for the clip rather than for solidity reasons. But what I have in mind, is not any regular clip you're currently using, but a different one (could be wire clip or not), fixed "vertically" with a screw in the backspacer (like a pen, if you like). It will make the knife go deep down in the pocket, keep a very low profile and the head of the screw (torx and rounded, so it won't wear off the clothing) might be used as a striker / glass breaker eventually.
The blade should stay at its current thickness (2.5 mm). A bit more belly at the blade would improve cutting IMO and it will make the knife look like a smaller Military - I'm drooling for such a long time for a Delica size Millie
As about the full flat ground, I'm not sure. I made a full flat ground to my SE Delica and it performs well. No tip problems, though I used it for throwing as well :) That VG-10 steel is really great. Yet, I am pretty satisfied with the hollow ground of my ATS-55 Delica or the flat ground of my CF Delica. The blade is thin enough so the geometry doesn't make much difference (IMHO).
Edited to add another small mention concerning the pivot pin. It should be an adjustable one, just like the CF Delica.

Hi Sal,

A blade that looks much like the current version would be ideal for me, although if a larger hole could be had using a little more belly and be accomplished flat ground that would be GREAT! I think G-10 w/ a single liner and a three screw clip would also be wonderful.

Thanks for even considering this!

Jeff/1911.

I'd have no problem with a blade that started from thicker stock. Thich knives are just fine--with a full flat grind and distal taper :D In a perfect world, I'd prefer to keep the Delica's original blade shape, but if the added thickness really doesn't add enough strength, I'd go with the larger opening hole (I've found the Delica's very slight belly to be an extremely useful blade shape). If all else fails, add some belly.

As for liners... They're not needed for strength. Let other companies hype the hell out of their dual liners; a G10 Delica doesn't need 'em. So the liners, to me, come down to the clip style. You've said before that Spyderco doesn't offer high-end knives with left-handed options because the buyers don't support those models. Is the same true with sprint runs? The carbon-fiber Police was released with a left-handed option, wasn't it?

Let it come down to your sales experience. If you'd release this in righty-only, then use a nested partial-liner for the (IMHO superior) three-screw clip (tip-up or -down; doesn't really matter to me). If you'd expect a significant number of sinister buyers, use a barrel bolt. Its shortcomings will be mitigated by the G10, anyway.

Sal,
When you get back from Blade I think many of us would like to hear any updates from you about this. Would you consider this?

Whats Spyderco thinking?

P.S.- Is there anyone out there who thinks this is a bad idea? If so why?

Not a "bad idea" per se, but it seems a bit redundant with the Paramilitary in line for production..

Speaking fo full flat grounds, maybe instead of making a full flat ground Delica it should be better and easier to reintroduce the Calypso jr. ?

If we get back the Calypso Jr. then I wouldn't miss a flat-ground G10 Delica all that much. Maybe you could still make the titanium one though? With that exotic zdp-189 stuff.

Just a full-flat ground VG-10 Delica with FRN would have me scrounging up the cash.

If it could also have the deep integral choil of the Native series and the Dodo, that'd be so cool.
