So i finally got around to JB welding the Ceramic Platen Liner from elliscustomknifeworks. I rounded the edges on the top and bottom. I havent decided on the side pieces. Anyways i did a quick sharpening on a test blade and i got a bump whenever i applied pressure to the platen. Is this normal? Its like the belt caught the glass then bounced the blade a lil. I dont really know how to explain it heh. Also how do i position the platen to the belt? Am i supposed to push the platen into the belt so it distorts the belt around it a little then tighten the bolts?

You've just experienced "belt bump". It occurs as the seam of the belt passes over the platen. It's especially noticable with the ceramic platens and with cheaper belts. Generally, the better belt brands don't bump as much, but there usually is some bump no matter the brand. You just get used to it after a while. The best belts I've found to avoid bump are the 3M Trizact CF belts.

If you want to eliminate bumps, do a search for the rotary platen. I still need to get one of those....:).

As for lining up the platen, I usually adjust it so that the belt makes even contact across the entire platen. If you push the platen out too far into the belt, you will wear your belts a bit prematurely and create a good bit more heat. I move the platen out just far enough to contact the belt evenly. On my KMG, I sometimes move the platen out further when flatening tangs so as to not have the top roller contact the blade.
