My continued slow place on my grinder build brought me to the metal scrap yard today. I will be needing a piece of flat steel for the platen, and it occurred to me I was not sure what width to use. Do I want exactly 2" or a bit over by a 1/8"or 1/4"? What says you all? TIA

Exactly two inches to match standard belt width. Consider adding a Pyrocreme glass liner to the surface to protect the steel surface as well as making the belts run cooler and longer. Good luck with your build, Fred

^^ Yep, exactly 2 inches, and definitely get a ceramic glass ("pyroceram") to JB weld (or use double sided carpet tape) it on top of the steel platen. Not only will your belts run cooler, but you will also notice a BIG difference in the flatness and consistency of your grinds. It was night and day for me after I put one on my platen. :)

2 inches wide x 3/8 thick is pretty common
