Flattening Chosera for Edge Pro - Coarse, XC, XXC?

Hi all,

I am buying the Chosera's for the Edge Pro, and I am wondering what plates you use to flatten them? Do you use a coarse plate for the coarser grits and a fine plate for the finer grits like the 10k? I see many people using the XXC DMT, but is this okay for the 10k Chosera? I would think it is too aggressive.

I use a XXC for truing stones but a cheap set of harbor freight diamond plates is helpful for smoothing the surface. Between using a flattening stone make sure to use a nagura to keep the surface clean and level. do not use a nagura for slurry formation.

I use the XC for mine, although I've seen a lot of people that will finish with a slightly finer plate once they get up to the higher grit Choseras. On my WEPS, I finish lapping my shaptons by rubbing indentical stones together for a final surface finish.

get a XXC you can smooth the stones by rubbing them together. clean them well after rubbing to avoid cross contamination. for exemple, lap everything with the xxc then smooth the 1k with the 400, the 5k with the 1k and the 10 with the 5k if that's your progression.

Would the silicon carbide that Ben at Edgepro provides work well for Chosera or Shapton stones using it in conjunction with the glass plate?

The SiC From Ep is a truly superb solution to flattening.

Another inexpensive solution is 3M wet/dry sandpaper used very wet, over flat glass or plexiglass. Mark with a pencil in the middle and on the edges, and make figure "eight" motions until the pencil marks disappear..
