Flattening for Pommel

I've peened on the bolster and scales and planned on peening the pommel on after sanding those down to a more general shape. My issue is that I cant achieve a perfectly flat edge for the brass. I've tried filing and a belt sander, and both methods seem to leave a slight curve.

Any advice?

Try getting it close to flat with your grinder, then lap the part on a piece of sandpaper affixed to a piece of granite. Use a figure 8 motion when lapping it on the granite. Use a coarse grit to start, then use finer grits once you establish a perfectly flat surface.

This is very important to get a flat hand-lapped surface.
