Flaw in BK2 blade?

I had a similar looking flaw on a bk11 i had awhile ago, figured it might be an inclusion in the metal and to use until something happened, which it never did. Ended up selling it and getting an izula (blasphemy, i know). The bottle opener always hurt my hand. Kind of want to give it another try though...

Hi,

I just stripped the paint off of my BK2 today, and I noticed what I thought was a rust spot. I tried to scrub it off with some baking soda, but it didn't come off. After taking a closer look, I'm not sure that it's a rust spot at all. It's a small blotch of squiggly brown lines, like an octopus. What do you think?

Welcome! I think we have seen this sort of thing before from another member. If I remember correctly, he was a bit perturbed as it wasn't something he expected with a brand new knife. However, these are production knives and they offer some of the best "bang for your buck" out there, there is bound to be some things that slip through the cracks. That being said, I imagine those marks will disappear with even just a small amount of use.

I'd beat on it like it stole something. These knives are made to be users.

This! Simply the best advice that anyone can give when it comes to Becker knives. Plus the BK2 is built like a freaking tank, I'd be surprised if that stain is anything more than just surface level.

That is such a cool mod, I'd buy one of those in a heartbeat.

I think doing a bit of polish work on the surface of that "stain" would be appropriate before deciding for sure it's a metal flaw. It may go away....

are you rubbing it with potatoes? :D

Get a BK14, Becker blade, Izula handle. IMO Best of both worlds. ;)

These knives are made from 1095CV steel which Rusts and discolors with use. The steel needs to be left a little rough to help the coating stick better. Color blemishes aren't an issue under the coating. I strip my Beckers and never worry about odd colored spots. Good looking knife and custom scales! Use and enjoy your new BK2!
