This GA is for all contributing traditional forum members. Just like a flea market you don't what you will get. You must also like old used knives, if you like shiny and new this GA is not for you. What you will receive are items in good working condition, clean, rust free and sharpened. Also but not mandatory please post why you like older knives.
I like older knives because I like getting a item that has not been touched or looked at for 50-100 years, I also like to research the knife and wonder what the owner did with it, what kind of work or why they carried the knife, and what was going on in world history at the time the knife was made and carried.
One entry per member, your post number will be your entry, GA will run from August 19th - August 26th
Good luck,
Pete

Pete, awesome give away idea. I love old knives and love surprises. This is a win win. I like old knives for a couple of reasons. I like to look at them and admire the craftsman ship that went into making them. How after a hundred years, most companies still can't get a sheild to fit as perfect they did back then. I also like to think about the men who carried the same knife. What they did for a living, which pocket did carry it in. Did they have to save for a month to buy this knife or was it a gift? I also like the idea of giving these old beauties a second chance at life instead of rusting away in someones drawer. Thanks for the chance.

Thanks for the opportunity Stitch, I like older knives because like you the history is really interesting behind the object, like any other antique is begs the question: "what has this seen, what has it done" et cetera. interesting answers always seem to arise.

surprises are cool

i like older knives because they are a tangible link to our ancestors and they are a reminder that the more things change the more they remain the same
also i dont have any older knives :P

I like the old stuff because in my memories of my youth my dad, or the old grand dad like figures I had, had "old" traditional pocket knives.

The sad part is I ended up with many of these old knives in my teens, but with going off to the Marines at 19, and then moving north after getting out all those old folders vanished. I keep hoping I will find them at my parents, but they too have moved at least twice since those days.

In the end, any knife or tool older than me gets my respect.

Cool idea, I like mystery boxes. I grew into oldies through time, started with tactical, then modern slipjoints and the the older ones, I found they got soul unlike the new ones, and most of the time craftsmanship is better.

The older knives already have a little history, a little personality. It's like making a new friend.

Cool idea for a giveaway, thanks for the chance.

Thank you for the chance, Pete :) I´m in.

I like older knives/tools in general because of the stories they could tell. They seem to be great pieces of craftmanship, propably because they wouldn´t have been lasted for so long, if they were no good. So the quality must be great. Doesn´t matter if a knife or any other tool around. :)

Kind regards
Andi

Thank you Pete. I like the older ones because I think a knife with well worn handles and old carbon steel blades with years of patina looks better than a new one. Also, as has been expressed, wondering what all this knife has experienced in its life adds to the intrigue.

Thank you for the very generous giveaway!
I like the older ones for the hunt. It is great finding something you never expected.

I love old knives because they have a history and a personality, like an old book that's been read a hundred times and the story only gets better.

I like the mystery of an old knife. What was it used for and who used it? Knives seem to bring out the curious and sometimes nosy little boy in me. I also like the idea that someone, years from now, will ask those questions about a knife I used.

BTW, I love the idea of a mystery box giveaway. Thanks

Very generous GA, I really like the idea of the mystery box; good on ya!

I love the older knives because they evoke feelings of humbleness and simplicity that we seem to be leaving behind as we progress forward in our species' journey through life. They also possess an aura of mystery and leave me contemplating how many hands it passed through, who used it, how much it was loved and makes me wonder about the history that I, myself, will leave behind and the legacy that will live on in spirit through my former steel companions. Every scratch, every chip, every bit of patina reminds me of my mortality and reaffirms the notion that nothing lasts forever, As the blade darkens, I grow a little wiser, as it pits, I begin to ache...it is a beautiful metaphor...and I get to continue that legacy myself as that blade passes through my hands. Because of these things, I will use the older knives because it would be a crime to not fulfill the obligation to continue that legacy of that little steel companion that served so many before me well.

When I die, they will still be there, waiting to guide the next generation along their journey...there is much more to write, but such thoughts cannot be adequately converted to speech...

Good luck everyone and have a wonderful day,
-Deadfall

Thanks for the chance Pete. I like old knives because I like to wonder about who owned them before and what tales they might could tell...

Please count me in, Stich! And thank you for the opportunity! I grew up with the great old knives...saw my Grandpa and my Dad and my uncles carry and use them.

I like old knives because they remind me of a time before I was born. I often sit and fondle one of my older knives and wonder what history is connected with it. What kind of life it has lived and the work that it has done.

i dont post here a ton mainly because of the fact i dont yet have a traditional knife yet but i have posted here a few times so with your blessing i would like to enter this very generous ga

my entry:
I like old knives because when i touch them you can almost make a connection to the time when a knife like this was in everyones pocket used but not abused, clen and rust free, taken care of just like they should be.

I love older knives they seem to have an ora about them i agree with buckmaster though its almost as if you can make that connection to the previous owner.

I like old knives because they give me a clue as to what people were like in the generations before the current ones. Likes and dislikes, acceptance of quality all tell a profound tale!
BTW, not an entry! Just a tribute to a great idea for a giveaway!! Nice going!!

I like old knives because of all the reasons already mentioned. First, craftsmanship, second (and related to the first) quality of materials, and third, I look at a knife, hold it, and wonder what tales it could tell if it could talk.
