interesting enough, but i could not get the lid open because the hinge was rusted shut and i could hear something rattleing in side. so after alittle soaking with some rost off i pryed it open with a screwdriver and found these.

one of the picture, the one of him holding a i cut rock ola carbine has "hi soldier, good luck always. its marked june 9 1944 bay of lyte. its got some other writing but i cant tell what it is. some of the other pictures have luzon and dinualpitars baton on the back. judgeing by the medal on his jacket he was certified for field artiliery and the m1 carbine.

my next find, was this (ww2???) trench coat. it could be a later coat but the seller told me that her husband baught it at a estate sale along with other ww2 momentos. ill have to do some more reasearch before i can state with certienty if its post war or not, "buy the gun, not the story". eather way its a nice, warm, unissued trench coat.

Those are some amazing photographs! The Japanese surrender delegation on the deck of the Missouri...

And the military censored nearly all pictures of US war dead; the folks back home seldom saw any such thing.

Nice to see you back. I was getting concerned almost to the point of writing or posting "where's KaBar" :)

Anyway, very nice finds and just the sort of things I collect. Things like that are a snapshot into history. Often an old soldier will keep all these treasured items in a box in the attic and after they pass on, someone will find them and just be concerned with 'clearing that old junk in the attic' so they can sell the house. Wouldn't you just love to have sat the old guy down and asked about everything he remembers about every photo? I have lots of well worn millitaria that is just crying out with stories behind each item.

Hope the GF and family stuff is sorted.

Cheers

The coat has spec 4 (specialist fourth class) rank insignia on it which makes me think that the coat was used post korean war. IIRC during WWII the specialist ranks were called Tech Sargents.

the crown jewl is a 1941 husqvarna vapenfabriks aktiebolag m38 swedish mauser, the reciever is glass bedded while the front of the laminated stock is fully free floating. its got a armstrong apature sight and the trigger has been treated to a trigger job. this is by far the most accurite rifle that i own, it even beats out both of my colt saur 25-06's and ive got several grand in to each of those. both the camshaft and that frying pan were at 100 yards, the frying pan has 6 holes in it, not 5, the middle hole is actually two holes only slightly off center of each other. thats using surplus ammo to, no hand loads.

If America is ever invaded by camshafts wielding frying pans, you will do your country proud!

;)

that was from a verry unusual round, the slugs are solid nickel. they apear to be some kind of ww2 surplus AP round.

you have no idea, these are only half of them. i could only get 50 in the room to clean at a time and i gave up taking pictures after the first 4 days of cleaning.

Purple top, specs and G-String we have seen before. Who is the gun toting red bikini?

Nice collection of military weapons. Hard to imagine any round could go through a camshaft. Expert bit of marksmanship too as a fraction of an inch either way and you have a deflection. I gave away a similar Remington before I left the UK as I didn't think I could get it into Canada :(

What's the knife with the lanyard ring under the M1 Carbine? I collect bayonets and fighting knives.

you have to take in to account that thats from a peep sight to, i dont believe or like scopes. the cam was one that i had in my trunk for a 3.4l GM motor. i forgot the targets one day and had nothing to shoot at, cept for what i could find in my trunk of course.

ill post a video of the 42 garand next time im at the range, its sickining how accurite that rifle is also. its only slightly less of a tack driver than the mauser. me and a friend of mine set up bowling pens at 500 yards and pick them off with the garand. its not a direct hit every time but id say we get them 3/4 of the rounds that we put down range. standard usgi peep sight to boot, with a NM apature i know i could do better.

its a bra ;) thats my girlfriend.

thats a EG waterman ww2 fighting knife. my girlfriend baught it for me, it was the start of the ww2 collection. if you collect bayos ive got a pretty big collection that you might be able to tell me about. ive got a ton of turk mauser bayos (nothing special, i use them as tent stakes) and one unknown swiss. this one might interest you, its the only bayo that ive got a pic of right now.

Nice trenchcoat!
OK, the rifles are nice too ;)

For the age of the coat, look at the label...the big rectangular one that should be above the right thigh under the liner IIRC.
There will be a long serial # XXXXXXX-XX-XXXXXXX
The 2 in the middle that are between the hyphens should be the year of manufacture.

Those are great coats, warm and durable.
A coat of scotchguard and you can add waterproof.
And they hold around 8-10 beers.
Can you tell it was my college coat?
:D

Kabar, Am I reading you right that those pictures were inside the mess kit
that you bought? And you sir are a lucky man, the Lady in the outfit is not
scared of those firearms.....
