Found a knife yesterday made by Helle for the world boyscout jamboree in Norway 1975. Total length 8.5 inches dark wood handle with a 4.5 inch blade. The sheath has a boyscout emblem imbossed in the leather. Didn't realize all this till I got it home. Learned that the world jamboree is every 4 years. Don't know much about scouts. I just thought it was a good find in the condition it is in for a bush knife. I thought I was looking at a mora at first. Scandi grind and laminated 18/8 steel. Sorry, no pics. Would you use this knife or pass it on to a collector?

I have seen the old helle's at a few gun shows, but i have no idea as to their collectability. I would research a bit before i used it, just in case. But , if it isnt collectable or anything, i would say that you'll have a good time using it. They are great quality knives.

As an Eagle Scout and amateur Boy Scout knife collector I would say don't use it and email me if you want to sell or especially trade it. jfogt6@woh.rr.com . What a find!

I`ve tried to search online for pictures of different boy scout knives, but all i`ve come up with is current versions for sale at different sites.
I`d really appreciate pictures, as i`ve never seen one of these before. And i suppose, many with me.

How do I post pictures, took some, not a professiional.

First, upload them to a site like photobucket or imageshack. Then, right click the picture, go to properties, then copy the URL. then come back to blade forums, then, while making your post, click the little mountain icon at the top of the post menu, then past the url in the window that should apear. I have been told that this is the long way, but it is also the most straight-forward.

Here are the pics as best as I can do for the first time. A picture is worth a thousand words. Any help posting pics appreciated.

Thanks for your help, it worked, first pics ever on internet.

I like the way the sheath was done in the back. A tight twist on flat thong then laced into the back. The strap around the top of the sheath is free and a small ferro rod could be slid in there next to the seam. Light enough for a neck knife.

I think there is definately a collector market for such knives, and it is in good shape.
As always, it is up to you if you want to use it, or trade/sell it.
Anway, thanks for giving us a look at it.
(Never seen one of these before, and i find it strange that they don`t make such knives anymore.)

Must be some special run since the Jamboree was in Norway that year. Looks better that the scout knife now made with the ugly guard on it.

That's a very nice find! It's really too nice to use, although it would certainly make a
good useful knife.
Would you be interested in trading for any new Helle knife from the web page,
plus a Viking Whet stone?

Best Regards,
R

Thank you for your response and interest. I have always enjoyed your website. Your offer is very generous. I am one of those knife guys that have to hold something for awhile. Some type of tactile connection with tools and gear. Regards
