Hey guys I just got a 3" flipper in the mail today and I noticed that the flipper was very very aggressive jimping.
Its really uncomfortable to flip out without any wrist action and it tears up the yip of my finger.
Any advice to make it less aggressive?

Is it a custom? Perhaps the one in your sig?
The customs have a much sharper flipper for sure.

3" XMs are more difficult to flip (less leverage and less weight), you need proper technique to do it without any wrist assistance and a properly adjusted knife. I have never seen a production 3" with "very very aggressive jimping", lets see some pics.

I have cleaned it now and it flicks out a little better and doesn't hurt so bad but i still cant flip it out without any wrist.

I have two 3" flippers and I have to use a little wrist when flipping. I think the larger blades flick without the need, but 3" blades are pretty short. Keep practicing and I'm sure you'll get it opening with little if any wrist action.

It is not as forceful as my EDC 3.5" BUT my EDC 3" opens with the flipper and No wrist action.
In order to do this:
- Knife should be lubed.
- Broken in
- Pivot properly adjusted

Hold the knife in the opening position with your index finger in position.
"Push" forward on the flipper (pre-loading) and QUICKLY snap your index finger rearward ...
Try a few times to get the flow of the technique , should be quick and fluid.

Knife (to include 3") should open with a snap and need for wrist flick.

If I knew how to post a vid I would show it.

Doubt that it is the "aggressiveness" of the jimping, finger just needs to get used to the feel.

Ok well I have been flicking it around with the tuf-glide in it and its not hurting basically anymore.. Also I think my finger has gotten used to it like Rubicon said.

Practice the above mentioned technique and the blade will be snapping open with relatively little effort.

This is off topic from the posted question, but I just wanted to say I am jealous of you. Imagine being 13 and having such an expensive toy! You must truly be "awesome!"

Haha ive used isaacsawesome for lots and lots of my usernames and I think its kind of childish and stupid but it just kind of stuck. btw on my youtube channel if you watch my unboxing of the other hinderer I explain how i saved up for these.

Use the thumb studs it makes deploying the XM 18 3 inch more natural because of the small size. So even though you have a flipper just use the thumb studs.

Seems like your problems never end! I hope your ( yip ) heals.

Suggestions for making the flipper less aggressive, leave it alone and develope proper deployement technique.

Wait till you get a custom, the jimping on the satin blades are crazy sharp just the way it should be.

You can also hold the 3" so that your middle finger touches the spine a little, really gets a good preload when you fire the flipper. I always pushed more straight into the handles on the 3".
