flipper and lube

Rubi.....what do you recommend for lubing an XM. Would CRK chlorinated grease work OK with the Teflon washers?

It is not as forceful as my EDC 3.5" BUT my EDC 3" opens with the flipper and No wrist action.
In order to do this:
- Knife should be lubed.
- Broken in
- Pivot properly adjusted

Hold the knife in the opening position with your index finger in position.
"Push" forward on the flipper (pre-loading) and QUICKLY snap your index finger rearward ...
Try a few times to get the flow of the technique , should be quick and fluid.

Knife (to include 3") should open with a snap and need for wrist flick.

If I knew how to post a vid I would show it.

Doubt that it is the "aggressiveness" of the jimping, finger just needs to get used to the feel.

IMO - I would not use a grease on my XM. I use a light oil. Light oil works well on our XM's and their teflon washers.
You can end up with too much grease, grease will attract and hold dirt that then acts as an aggregate (sand paper) in the pivot.
The primary reason our knives are so smooth is the pivot design, tight tolerances and F&F.
Certainly a good quality lubricant coupled with regular maintenance is necessary for longevity and proper function of our knives.
I have even used PTFE lubricants and still come back to a good quality light oil (viscosity, not color) in an easy to use applicator.
Depending on the price, Nano oil would work fine but I wouldn't get carried away with spending $$ on fancy name oils.
:)
Here is what I use. Carry it with me in my GoBag as well as have one next to my sharpening station.
The applicator enables you to apply just the right amount exactly where you want it (less is best) the oil is light but has great staying
power as well. I have never noticed it gathering and holding dirt either.

Been satisfied with the fluorinated grease. Dang. You just made me order nano oil anyway!

I didn't !! :) Mine isn't. What I do like about the above pictured applicator is - I use it on my knives, guns, etc. I do not have to disassemble my XM to apply a nice dose of lube. Every week or two, I put two(2) small drops and work my pivot to migrate the oil to the washers and "Whack" it flys open and closed like Magic.
Hinderers resond very well to a little love :p

Nano oil arrived and tested. Wow, big difference. The grease had a smooth, calm feel, while the oil is just slick. Flicks open much easier even with more tension on the pivot.

Thanks. Works very well!

I bought 10. It's what I saw suggested. 5 was for bearings I think.

Where can I get this? What is it called. I saw the Nano oil and it's pricey. :(

In the interest of full disclosure (don't want anyone to think information is being kept from them) I have not been able to find the manufacturer of the lube pictured in my post.
What I do know:
- It's 5w High Quality machine oil suitable for guns, knives, reels, sewing machines, etc.
- It works Great in our knives (Great). I use it in my guns also.
- The applicator makes it even better
- I have been able to find "similar" on the internet and provided those links to a few members via PM (It's not deal spotting but, the websites aren't sponsors of either BF or RHK) so, it was not appropriate to post the link(s).
- It is effective and NOT expensive "snake oil" (no pun intended).

I am continuing to pursue "finding" the exact stuff I have and when I do, I will try and figure out a way to benefit BF/RHK members.

I am using Daiwa reel oil that looks almost identical to what Rubi is using. Can't say it's the same oil but it's highly popular among the fishing fanatics and reels get more workout than knives do. I have no complaints. Deployment is always smooth and quick. Once a month application is what I'm guessing...

Just ordered some of the Daiwa Reel Oil online. Hoping it helps me master the wrist-less flick (so far not able to accomplish on my new-to-me XM-18 3.5").

I am sure this has been said in other threads but put the pressure on the jimping on the flipper, that helps me. When you clear the detent, does it seem smooth? You may have to loosen the pivot a little bit.

Hehehe...thanks! Got it!!! :) I was all just operator error on my part! :) SAAWEEEET!! :)

Well, the Daiwa Reel Oil showed up today. Wow! What a difference! Stuff works like a charm. Blade flies open after application. Truly impressive.

And at only $3.99/ea hard to beat! I bought 4 tubes... gave one to a friend... figure the other 3 should last me for life! :)

BTW, it does look just like the pic Rubi posted above, just with the Daiwa logo on it.

Cool. Good product at a good price and it works great in our knives. Sounds like a winner to me, nice to share with a friend as well
