Flipper Opening In Pocket?

Sorry if this a stupid question. What are the chances that a knife with a flipper could open in your pocket? I usually carry my knives loose in the front pocket of my jeans with my wallet. Is this dangerous?

Very low risk. Auto with no safety might be a different answer.

Depends on the strength of the detent. I usually carry knives like that clipped in my pocket so the blade is held closed by the back side of my pocket. Too many arteries/veins/genitals in that area to take a risk.

if carried properly, the chance for a flipper to open accidentally in a pocket is very low. Interestingly, when dropped to the ground, flippers almost always upen partially.

Choose the orientation that will hold the blade against the seam of your pocket...

I carry in my right front pocket, so all of my knives are tip up.

I always carry my knife so blade spine is against the pocket seam closest to my backside. Makes it virtually impossible.

For those of you who carry flippers in the pocket, do you put anything else in your pocket with the knife?

No. Dedicated pocket. I once had a flipper bite me, it was a heavy blade and had a weak detent. I iife with a normal detent shouldn't be an issue. As others have said, wear the blade against the edge of the pocket, no worries.

A flipper that is assisted can open, it happened to me. The knife was clipped in my right cargo pocket. When i was kneeling down my pants tightened on the flipper and it opened cutting my pants.

I've cut myself a couple of times with knives with weak detents. Flipper and thumb stud openers.
Got to keep them tucked up tight to the seam. I do try not to put anything else in my pocket I carry in.

Flippers can open in your pocket. Some designs are worse than others. Assisted knives are more prone to this, but again, it depends on the design. The safest are backlocks, usually, again, depending on design. Caution is prudent.

Maybe I just did it wrong. I've had two different flippers and would carry them tip up, right hand pocket, with nothing else in that pocket. One was a CKRT M16 and I can't remember what the other was. The M16 didn't have the strongest detent, but the other was very tight. They would both occasionally open maybe 1/4" to 3/8". I got myself a couple times pretty minor. Then, one time I reached into my pocket and put the tip of the M16 to the bone of my middle finger. It was pretty bad. I practically gave them away.

I have ever had a Seb25 blade open half way when I pull the knife from the pocket.

I always have my phone and my knife in my front right pocket. Vast majority of the time that knife is a flipper. Also, knives that use the flipper have never opened in my pocket on me.

I carry a zippo in the same pocket. Most of my clipped knives are short enough not to make contact and if I'm carrying a traditional it usually goes in the watch pocket or a pocket slip.

Right front pocket is my knife pocket and nothing else goes in there.
Never had a flipper open.

It has happened to me more than once but it occurred only when replacing it to the pocket rather than opening while being carried inside the pocket. Upon sliding the knife into the pocket, the flipper caught on the pocket edge and opened the knife. Cut myself a couple of times before paying attention to what I was doing.
