Flipper or no flipper on xm-18?

Flipper for sure, mine opens easily with no wrist action and opens like an automatic knife firing. Also, mine seems kind of hard to open with the thumb stud because its close to the scale.

mine is very easy to open with the thumb studs (it's the easiest knife to open with a thumb that i've ever handled) both right handed and left handed. the trick is pushing in a forward motion from behind the thumb stud rather than coming in at the side and performing a sweeping motion. the umnumzaan is the same way

I have a flipper and I really like it. I have NEVER had it open up even a little in my pocket with tip-up carry. The flipper action isn't really hard either. Opens very quickly and smoothly.

another plus in my book for the flipper is that it adds a finger stop/guard when closing, as it seems that most XM's close very easily I just feel a bit safer using it one handed with the flipper acting as a stop to keep me from removing a chunk of my thumb.

If I get an XM-18 I intend to carry my knife in this pocket of my fire jacket:

I am a little concerned that my fire hood or other tools may snag on the flipper when I pull them out of the pocket past the knife.
