Recommendation? Flipper recommendation?

After decades of knife collecting, this would be my first serious flipper. Here's what I'd like:

--$800 max. Regardless of price, I want good QC, because I can't do tweaks or repairs.

--Made overseas is OK.

--Good smooth out-of-the-box action.
I notice people talking about ceramic and double-row bearings. Not sure if that's necessary. Lol, Arizona Custom Knives has these kinds of offerings, I could eventually buy a knife with these. But unfortunately I don't have the time to learn how to take apart knives to do the swaps.

--Relative maintenance free. About all I myself can do is wash, dry and lube, nothing fancy.

--Simple design. This isn't a show-stopper. I like the profile of the Medford M-48 (but with better action), or the Pro-Tech Malibu (but obtainable).

--Prominent flipper tab. I have a Buck where the flipper tab is too small, and it doesn't generate the leverage or snap needed. A knurled or textured tab is a plus.

--No thumb studs or Spidey-type holes.

--I prefer slicier blades.

Thanks to everyone who responds!!

--Greg Goode

(Dear mods - this is a duplicate OP. The first one never showed up.)

Hmm. if you could drop the "no thumb stud the Sog Pentagon looks awesome. On my list in the new gray handle. Good lookin sticker!

Honestly, the ProTech Malibu is one of the best out there. If you like it, you really should track one down. They're becoming easier to get, and secondary prices are coming down as well. I imagine ProTech will be doing another rum of them pretty soon too

I’ll second Silent H on the Malibu, they come up on the exchange occasionally.
If you can wait, the North Arm Skaha II ticks all your boxes for much lower than $800.
You can check out Vero designs but they have more of a front flipper hybrid versus a true flipper tab.
ZT has multiple flippers without studs or holes: 0450, 0220, 0801 to name a few.

The Skaha II really sounds amazing. I might put in a pre-order, thanks!

I will redouble my efforts. There are a few listed in the Exchange....

I'm not a fan of dedicated flippers - I don't mind the flipper tab; but I prefer them to have thumbstuds or an opening hole, as well - so I'm not up on current offerings...but my favorite flipper-only knife is the Reate K2.
I'll second the Breathtaking Steel recommendation, as I'm thrilled with my Cheburkov. I chose a model worth an opening hole; but they have several flipper only knives if buy (if I liked flippers ;) )

The Curtiss F3 fits the bill here. Right in your budget. Has a slicer blade (in Magnacut). Has a plain jane option in addition to many custom milling patterns and anodizing. The quality is outstanding, as is the customer service. Probably worth a look.

For once, I will not recommend a Benchmade or Spyderco.

My favorite flipper is the Civivi Cogent. It ticks all the boxes, has a button lock, flips very easily (also drops open or closed), has my favorite steel (14C28N), and is great for slicing multilayer heavy-duty cardboard. But perhaps it is not expensive enough at $70. :-)

In all honesty, ZT is hard to beat in the flipper department. The bearings are caged, so taking one apart is a non issue. They have different sizes, so finding one to suit your needs shouldn’t be difficult. Their CS is good and there’s options to mod one if you decide to go that route.
On some of the recommendations listed, be mindful that some of them have bearings that are loose and a PIA to keep up with once it’s apart.

Wow, ordered....

Thanks, I might go for the ZT 0452CF
