Hey,
I'm looking for an EDC flipper with a plain edge about 2.5-3.5" long and around $30. I was thinking about the Kershaw Cryo or the CRKT Ripple but would like to see other options. Also don't recommend the Kershaw Skyline since I'm not a big fan of that knife.

Have you considered broadening your horizons? If you buy a $30 knife, use it for a year, then it breaks.
Rinse.
Repeat.
Rinse.
Repeat.
Cry.
So try something a bit more quality?
Spyderco has some great knives like the Native, Delica, Endura and Manix that can be had for under $100

Kershaw in general has a fair amount of flippers in your price range the Burst, Clash, Brawler, Zing, and the Cryo which I have and love playing with the flipper on it its a nice EDC. I don't have much experience with CRKT mostly because I couldn't get into their designs so just never picked any up.

the best flippers I own are ZTs but that's a fair bit more then your $30 price but totally worth saving for.

agree with cjz. my suggestion would be crkt m16. they have a ton of variations and theyre not bad for the money. i think theyre about the size and price youre looking for.

I have the Cryo and the Ripple and a few others in that price range. I would definitely suggest the ripple, the ball bearings make it much more fun to play with than an assisted opener like the majority of kershaw flippers.

I would spend more money but I'm kind of on a budget and I'm sure a $30 knife will handle EDC tasks

If you are absolutely set on that, then i'd suggest a Kershaw Brawler. Decent assist, flipping was no problem.
Took a nice edge.
Solid feel.
Also, I got mine at Wally World for about $20.
Oh and, if you would consider something that doesnt have a flipper, then the Spyderco Tenacious is a fantastic EDC choice in your price range

I know it's more than you wanted to spend, But the buck vantage pro is an excellent knife for the money. S30V, smooth flipper, deep carry pocket clip and G-10.

You don't need to get the s30v version of the vantage, for 20 bucks you can get the select vantage in good old 420hc. I'd go with the Buck all the way. Made in the USA, lifetime warranty also.

Ok so out of the suggestions I can't decide between the Cryo and the Clash. The things I like about the Cryo are that its not only got the flipper but it's also got the ambidextrous thumbstuds and that its a very appealing knife. Not really any things I don't like about it except that its 2.75", I'd prefer a 3" or bigger knife but I mean you can't have everything. The Clash on the otherhand has a bigger blade, but lacks thumbstuds and also looks quite a bit chunkier than the Cryo.

Eventually, get a Vantage select. It might not come perfect from the factory, but with a little adjustment, it's a very good knife for under $30. If you don't abuse it, it will last a long time.

If your leaning more towards the cryo but prefer the bigger blade you could wait a little longer for the cryo 2 to be released it wont cost much more and it has a 3.38" blade you can even preorder on most major sites they will send it out as soon as its available

I haven't had any of my many $20-30 Kershaws break(or have any issues for that matter that an occasional resharpening won't fix) yet I've had several of them for well over a year...and a budget Kershaw is my usual EDC. I personally am really fond of the OSO Sweet, but Clash, Cryo, Compound, Burst...can't go wrong with any of them.

id suggest the spyderco penknife, great for edc, not a flipper, but opens very quickly, and doesnt close unless your trying to close it, its in the 40's range but its worth the extra 10, super light, good steel, holds an edge very well, and take a mirror edge almost with out even trying

How about a Kershaw Volt SS? All stainless framelock, like the cryo, but with a 3.5" blade that has a great EDC shape. It only has the flipper, but that keeps the knife smooth and clean so it never hangs up going into or coming out of your pocket. Also, I am not a huge fan of thumbstuds on assisted openers for safety reasons.

You can also find the RJ1 around your budget price, in addition to the knives already mentioned.

I have both the Cryo and Buck Vantage and think both are good EDC knives. Not great, but good. I generally don't like what I define as the mid-length knives, so I don't carry the Vantage much. If you want bigger go with the Cryo 2 when it comes out. I also used to have a Volt II and liked it. The 8Cr steel is good as long as you touch it up on the sharpener and oil it

I have the Kershaw Compound. Lacks the thumb studs as you pointed out, but aside from that it's also a little beefy on the handle. The handle itself is rather thick, not sure if you like that or not. It's a solid knife in my opinion. Snagged it for $15 off a sale so I'm not complaining. The Cryo looks like a mix of the Kershaw Beacon and the Clash to me.
