Flippers get sluggish after a week or so. What lube?

I use WEX surgical instrument oil. It's the closest thing to sperm whale oil that is still available. I use it on all my knives, great stuff and never gets gummy.

I use Tuf-Glide with great results! I use it on my bearings and washers. I swear by the stuff! I've used Ballistol, Hoppe's, CLP, and years ago (before I knew any better) WD40. IMO It beats 'em all out. Just make sure you clean it well first! :)

I really like Hoppe's 9 Gun Oil, it made the action on my de-assisted ZT-0566 silky smooth! Plus I like the smell of it

I've had great results from 10wt nano oil. A bottle seems expensive but you only need a couple tiny drops per knife so it lasts just about forever.

My favorite is Slip2000 gun lube its colorless, odorless, non toxic, and doesn't attract dirt and dust like many other oils.

Nano oil is the best out there for lubrication. BUT, pocket knives (especially well oiled ones) are dirt and lint magnets. The best thing I have found to clean them without taking them apart is an inexpensive ultrasonic jewelry cleaner. Fill it with hot water and Dawn dish soap and let it go through the long cycle. Mine is about 8 minutes. Rinse well with hot water. Blow out all the water with a can of compressed air. Spray with WD40 if you want to be sure all water is gone. Then lube the pivot and wipe down with your favorite metal protector.

I guarantee you that your knife will be smoother than it was from the factory. I think mine was about $45-50 bucks. It will be the best money you will spend on knife care.

Good luck,
Jim.

I hate Militec-1. Regardless of their claims of not having chlorine in it, it was rejected as an engine oil additive by the USMC for having chlorine in it. It seems to actually enhance rust compared to even bare steel.

That's too bad, to each his own.
I have used it for years; never in engines, but all the time in locks.
It has never promoted any rust for me.
It has always made any mechanism I put it on work slicker, a lot slicker.
Once applied and worked through the mech. all excess fluid can be wiped off.
Dry & slippery? That's awesome.

My second fav is triflow.
Triflow doesn't penetrate as well as some. But it is very slick none the less.
Oils are quite sticky/gummy and attract way too much dirt and dust for my uses.

I just use a drop of honing oil (the same oil for floating swarf off of oil stones). It's pretty thin and seems to keep the mechanisms lubricated for a long time.

Is Nano Oil non toxic?

I just looked at the three different weights 5w, 10w and 85w. None of them say non-toxic. So my guess would be yes, It is toxic. But you need so little and the needle applicator make it so you can get in the pivot without making a mess.

FrogLube is non-toxic and is pretty good as a rust inhibitor, But it isn't so great as a lube. It's better than tuf-glide as a lube though. That stuff is horrible as a lubricant.

I use Victorinox's proprietary oil, which I believe is just mineral oil with their brand on it but it works good for me.

Clean out the old oil and apply a tiny bit of nano oil to each washer and the detent track = perfection
