Flippers with THICK, beefy blades!

Fatty!

The Lionsteel Sr1 I have has a pretty thick blade. Stands to reason the sr11 flipper version will have a fat blade too.

Spyderco K2 is my big chomper. Some are still around for sale. It is a Spyderco Beast, and illegal in Canada! Not a flipper but doesn't need to be, CPM10V, a D2 on steroids..

Wander Tactical. A quite small, specialty Italian survival / tactical knife company.

They start with a hunk of .25" D2, it ends up a heroin-chic, svelte .2" at the spine. They offer a variety of blade geometries; I have the Mistral Ti, sort of a Wharncliffe on 'Roids. I picked mine up new from an authorized dealer for $310; this included a custom ceramic coating on the blade and Micarte slabs for handles.

The coating, so far, holds up to everything. Bonus: corrosion resistance is increased, and the coating is a nano-particle base, so it is self-lubricating.

The locking mechanism is what first attracted me: both sides of the frame are actively used. I can't imagine this lock ever failing. You can also screw a pin into place for a "fixed" blade.

The handles and ergos in general: I have pretty large hands, and they are pretty beat to crap from strongman training and competition. The handles don't so much permit me to pick the knife up as they aggressively sink their teeth into my palm and fingers, and it is incredibly solid. Just a great grip.

The lock is straightforward to disengage, but I can't picture doing it one handed. Everything about the knife feels pretty darned good.

My only complaint: it shipped with a 34 degree grind. Yeah, it was sharp, but it didn't so much slice as simply pulverize. I reprofiled to 29 degrees, which made a huge difference: the knife actually can be used to cut things other than Bambi's hindquarters.

And all their products come with a lifetime warranty.

I've been curious about them too. I kinda dig the Mistral too, but there seems very little info about them, am I correct in assuming that that "two thumbstuds" are actually more 1 Thumbstud and 1 Bladestop? Which makes more sense than it just being aesthetics. Perhaps if you feel like it sometime you could make a short video on the action or perhaps lend it to one of the Youtubers for a Review? I for one would very much like to see it.

If you can find one still the ZT 0909 ... Hinderer XM-18 Fatty ... not sure how thick or thin your range is but some other ZTs have thicker blades than many ... Medfords ... Viper Vox Fortis Flipper ...

Not a flipper.
Not thick.
Not illegal in Canada.

b00n b00n : to your first question, "yes."

Maybe this will help:

Jesus that double thumb stud kills it for me. Looks like they put the first one in the wrong place and had to add a second one. I couldn't even look at them any longer once I saw that.

I think they would be well served if they combine them into a proprietary thumb plate of sorts, where it works both to open the knife and to stop it. Similar to what Rike has done to a few of their knives. It'd make it a little better looking. But given that they both serve a purpose unlike another makers ALLTHESTUDS™ approach I am not knocking Wander (too much :D)
