Flipping my flipper

Once you take an XM apart it's often not as simple as just throwing it back together to find perfection. I can adjust them to perfect, but it's difficult to describe to another. First, reassemble, then adjust as necessary; seems both accurate and too general.

I know what you mean. When I received my gen 4 spanto in new condition, flipping/thumbstud opening was a little rough, until I added a tiny drop of oil and some slight adjustments to the pivot and bam. It basically falls right when it gets past the detent hole. It is a very smooth flipper. You can watch the blade literally fall after you push open the lockbar, just as if it had bearings like it's cousin, the 056x.

A little Update from me. I tried loosening the pivot but because I don't have the tool the other side included rotating.
The funny thing is, that if flips easier now nevertheless. Not as good as in the vid and I still need wristaction but it is an improvement. Thanks again for the tipp.
I'll be looking for a tool now.
At the same time I have one more question. The tool will fit the pivot but not the scalescrews of the 3". Correct? What's the proper key for the scalescrews?

Best Peter

Just wanted to comment on this existing thread. When I got my new (bnib) xm this week it wasn't quite a consistent flipper out of the box. I took the pivot out, put a tiny drop of nano oil on it, put the pivot back in and snugged it down to my liking and added some purple loctite. Their is no wiggle, even closed and the pivot is tightened to the point that it starts to "catch". I don't know if it has broken in or that my technique just got better but mine is now a very reliable flipper, even if I hold the knife vertically with the blade up. It's just like the video.

ETA: I have not been flipping this thing non stop either. Just a few times a day really.

Same thing here. When I got mine it was a little tight. When I got the tool and took it apart I used some nano oil and adjusted to my liking. Now it flips effortlessly. Smoother than my folders with bearings.
