I'm getting a little confused about these laws, is it legal to carry with a cwp or without? I was doing a little research about this and I cannot find a straight answer, they are all different...

My understanding is that you can carry ANY pocket knife auto or manual, without blade length restrictions as long as it is NOT concealed (meaning clipped to your pocket is ok). There is nothing in the statute that defines automatic knives, OTF or side opening, as "weapons".

If you have a CWP you can carry Excalibur around down your pants if you want...it's the Gunshine state after all ;)

haha defiantly the gun state, just went to the local gun show at the fair grounds and must of had over 10,000 guns on show and was packed with people lol

Yeah I was at the one in Tampa a week or so ago. Got to handle a few knives that I'd been looking at.

ndeezl is correct. The law only covers concealed carry, while having no mention of restrictions on open carry. Autos are not specifically named in any part of the law.

“Weapon” means any dirk, knife, metallic knuckles, slungshot, billie, tear gas gun, chemical weapon or device, or other deadly weapon except a firearm or a common pocketknife, plastic knife, or blunt-bladed table knife.

A person who carries a concealed weapon or electric weapon or device on or about his or her person commits a misdemeanor of the first degree, punishable as provided in s. 775.082 or s. 775.083.
...
(3) This section does not apply to a person licensed to carry a concealed weapon or a concealed firearm pursuant to the provisions of s. 790.06.
Truncated for brevity

Only thing of note is that an auto is not a "common pocketknife." So in short, open carry or get a CHP.

Here's some better links that are official:

knife-expert.com is badly out of date these days, so it's best to look for statutes on the state government sites.
