Florida theme parks and knives

On the other hand, Cypress Gardens outside of Tampa does prohibit knives.

  WHEN DID THIS HAPPEN?!!

I haven't been there since a year before they closed shop and they never bothered me upon entry. Of course, knives would go IN the pocket before reaching the gate and not clipped to the pocket, but still...  :(

This is most distressing to me because Mrs. misque and I try to make it there at least once or twice a year to enjoy the beauty of their gardens. :(

Thanks for the heads up. Guess I'll be scratching them off the list too. Just another case of punishing the 99.98% of people who carry and don't bother people because of maybe one incident by some jerk. Why can't corporate types just stop trying to control the world?

When Cypress Gardens re-opened under the new ownership... They actually have metal detectors now.

Its a shame -- the park has been really expanded and is very "family" oriented.

Hi All-

Theme parks are private property and they can enforce their rules (within legal limits). If they don't want you to enter with a knife you can't. Sporting events (in stadiums) are venues where disappointed fans tend to riot. We have all seen it. I can see why there is a 'no weapons' policy there.

I would far rather be around a bunch of armed people who are ready to act or react, than be mixed in a herd of sheeple without no option but wait for help. :(
So Merek, which is it? A person can have a pocketknife during some entertainment activities, but not others? I haven't personally seen a brawl during a professional sporting event in decades. The biggest factor there is BEER sold in huge cups to half-in-the-bag fans, not whether somebody has a pocketknife or not.

The most dangerous thing is the slippery slope. It makes getting dressed in the morning kind of difficult when you have to determine where and when your personnel possessions might not be allowed. What happens when the mall, supermarket, or Wal-Mart decides you can't carry a pocketknife in there, either? The scary part is that the average sheeple WILL support that kind of draconian policy.

Sheesh,

Draconian is telling people what rules thay can or cannot enforce on their private property. If I don't agree, there is nowhere I can go that I cannot find somewhere else.
While I like to carry my knife, and will thru any means at my disposal try to bypass any rules to the contrary, I usually won't die if I must return it to the car. Depends on how it is asked of me and how irritated I am at getting caught.
We all agree the rules are stupid in many cases but I don't really want some mall ninja with a tanto in his boot sharing a rollercoaster with my daughter.
People are stupid at the drop of a hat. Some are knife carriers AND stupid. :grumpy:

Disneyland is cake. i've been there on more than one occasion. they'll look at the outside of your pockets, but that's it. i drop the knife into my pocket, and just clip it on after i get thru the gates. smooth.

Disneyworld is the same way. After I go thru the gate I clip my knives back to the top of my pocket and don't get bothered by anyone(I should have mentioned this in my first post in this thread, but neglected to :footinmou ). I pass numerous Disney security inside the parks, but they leave me alone.
It appears to me that after you get thru the gates, the unspoken rule seems to be, if you don't bother others then security won't be bothering you. If this indeed the case, I think the other parks(Anheuser Busch owned parks for example) should adopt this policy and get their nosey selves outta my pockets.
