wlfryjr wlfryjr I have a couple of questions. Are the bolsters on this knife brass or nickle silver? And do you still have the knife?

I ask because I just bought one that off of eBay, that appears identical to yours. With the exception that in your pictures, your bolsters have a brass color, and mine are nickle silver or maybe stainless.

Mine is brass, but I have one like yours too. I do still have it

Trevor Ablett (R.I.P.) carried on the fading Sheffield maker scene very well until his demise a few years ago!! Often called a Peach Pruner, I love this graceful, and nicely fitted Trimming, and Florist's knife!!
Came with his autograph!! :)

The tang stamp reads; Pontifex, with a picture of a robed and hooded person, perhaps a monk!! Nice shadow pattern French Ivory handles with a bail!!
Any info is appreciated!!

Nice of you to re-kindle a rich thread

Good looking knife. You say the tang has a robed figure, off the op of my head I believe Pontifex was a body of priests in Ancient Rome (pre Christian) that interpreted laws....but as to the knife's origins can't say, but it's not Antiquity ;)

Thanks, Will

Pontifex = Pontiff = Pope!!! (Pontifex Maximus)
I doubt he made this knife though!! 🤣
Someone used his name for its standing or reputation!!
