floyd o'Leary?

Hey all. I know there's been some issues in the past with various scams so we all tend to check when called out of the blue

I got this the other day:

Floyd O`Leary sent a message using the contact form at http://koyoteknives.com/contact.

I have an order in house.
When I receive that I would like to have some more info on the above piece. LOA , Blade length , steel usually used, pricing , and lead time. Do you use 5160 for these if requested.
I see a few pieces I would like. I usually make one purchase. If I like what I see then I will add to what is available from that Smith. I only purchase what you make as taking a smith to far out of his comfort zone can be a bad experience for both parties.

okay, somehow I was having trouble filtering the chaff out of google.

There's been a few cases of guys running third world copyshops and such lately.....

I'm all happy for orders, and no probleme making one of my favorite knives!

Before we go too far saying he is a scam, I just made him a knife (May have been the order referred to in the email) and he was fast to pay and had very good communication. He saw a knife I listed here that was already sold and contacted me to make him a similar one. I made it, he payed, I shipped, he confirmed receiving it and all was well.

Did you first reply to his email and feel it out, or just assume it was a scam? My experience was very smooth with Floyd.

As far as typing like Borat's cousin, from my many emails back and forth with Floyd, I understand he has been collecting custom knives for 50 years so he may not have grown up spending a lot of time on a computer like you and I. Cut the guy some slack until you have reason not to.

Whoa, there. No accusations. I was asking- because there [bold] have [/bold] been cases like Andy's, where a semi-anonymous request for specs led to a copy manufacturing run on ebay.

Absolutely not accusing, just asking.
