Medic, unfortunately you missed the point that the minimum order for the stones as a dozen for each one. That makes it pretty difficult to make only one or two units; Even so, anyone who's ever mnufacturered anything knows there are failures. Regardless, I am interested in this given stone enough to give it a solid effort. The only one that that allowed as few as one was the Red 1200 grit 3mm x 4" ceramc ($40). I bought two. I don't believe either of the others even offers such a stoning configuration. My thoughts are not even on the other two right now.

I'm very interested in creating a carriage for a serrated sharpener and also allowing a much smaler angle (of 10 or so). Most of my knives are Japanese so they're often under 2mm so this WE limitation has great interest for me.

So far I've spent over $500 on product just to see what will work and what wont. The majority is in the Boride Engineered Abrasive stones. In particular the Blue CS-HD which is reported to handling blades to Rc of 63. That is a monumental cliam. The Shaptons and the Chosera are heralded but the price not justifiable to the value of the machine. So I started a quest I thought we ALL could benefit from.

So, let's say this all plays out splendid. I keep a couple machines, give a couple away. Then, how do I get rid of the rest of them? A box in the garage? Or maybe, just maybe, the guys here would like to buy one for nothing more than the cost of the parts? There are a dozen of each stone, that comes out to 6 entire matchines. Hardly mass marketing...is it?

Maybe?

I also forgot the addition of the leather strops (2 for each side and the 3M Micro Paper, again two for each side. So that brings us to 6 stones (120 to 1000), plus 2 leather Blanks and then two more for the 3m micro paper. For a total of 10...oops, forgot the 3mm Red 1200 grit ceramic serration hone for a total of 11.

11 stones, the entire machine (re-worked to allow 10 degree angle). A serrarion rod and 20 3M micro paper polishers...and for what?

The USA patent office has some interesting designs listed which date back to early last century, many similar designs that are used and patented today. Its worth a look!!!

So basically what you're planning on doing is ripping off someone else's design and hard work? I mean, you've gone so far as to even list each individual part from each design, and list how much it would cost you to counterfeit each piece. Not real cool in my book.

Don't know ya, but I like ya.

What you wrote speaks volumes to creative people who develop products only to see them ripped off by dunces who make a buck or two and in the process mitigate the original concept and design.

I can't imagine anyone buying into something like this sight-unseen.

And I'm also in the camp who thinks it's not cool to come in and reverse-engineer someone's design and then sell it at cost. These people/companies worked hard to get their product out there and deserve better than this.

Per unit (6): $151

I should have 2 or 3 extra...any takers?

What ever helps you justify your decision. BTY, I would suggest you read the forum rules, because you've just crossed one.

Thanks Keith. Stuff like this irks me, and I guess I just have trouble staying quiet on it. BTW, I've owned a few of your strops and steels for several years now. Top notch items.
