BladeForums has been in existence for about twenty months, with recknives and KnifeForums dating back even farther. For those of us who have been involved with these groups for some time questions about the more basic and general aspects of our shared hobby/passion do become repetitive, sometimes to an extreme.
What we have to take into account is that we have new people of various backgrounds joining us every day, FNGs (F*****g New Guys), as we would say in my Business.
One of the reasons we come here is for conversation with people who have common interests, perhaps insight into the questions we have. When a simple question is rebuked with an answer of Use the Search Feature, it defeats this goal entirely and renders this medium sterile and lifeless. Part of the beauty of the World Wide Web is the immediacy and interaction involved. When someone asks Whats you favorite ______? at the beginning of the Summer in the Year 2000, telling him to look for answers posted weeks or months ago is hardly the best advice. New knives and production techniques are being released constantly. Benchmade has two new models hitting the streets any day now, Darrel Ralph is cranking out new EDC pieces as we speak, to name but a few. Pointing someone towards dated information on the Internet is no better than Pony Expressing them a year old catalog, not to mention rather rude and belittling in a Why didnt you know everything on your first day? kind of way.
Lets relax and have some fun, people. As your Grandmother used to say, If you dont have anything nice to say
No one needs to open every thread that is posted, let alone reply to them. If you dont feel like answering the same question more than once, then dont. There are 3600 other people here to help take up the slack.
The least you can do is not be rude to the New Guy just because he's a New Guy.
