It works great for high alloy blades. Not necessary for steels that harden with temps below 1600, but,you couls use it if you want to be real close to finished prior to HT. Won't work with steels that need a very fast quench because you can't get it out of the foil and into the oil quick enough and the foil would slow down the quench. I think with something like O1 and maybe 5160 you could leave in the foil, but, really why. They are not that hard to finish after HT. The foil will be brittle and suspect after you do a 1850 heat for high alloy. I would not use it again. The 309 foil is better than the 321 and worth the extra money in my opinion. I had some 321 go to crap and some of it stuck to the blade and was hard to grind off. It had actually laminated to the steel. Just what I have experienced. Jim
