A fixed blade. :p

On your profile it says that you are hungry to learn the art of knife making. First of all, folders are an extremely ambitious project for any beginner, and doing some fixed blades is part of the experience. Second, you are taking this way too fast. Slow down, do some research, and collect some information before you jump into projects.

I am pretty new to this, and I am enjoying the experience as I am going along. I made some stock-removal blades with files, and now I moved to a cheap forge. Just putter along and enjoy your time. Just like anything, going too fast will just frustrate you.

Geek has is correct, and you're going to get this same advice a lot from most makers.

That being said, I made my first one a linerlock. Buy a few cheap knives similar to the one you want to make and tear them apart. Then, try to build a copy of each piece and see if you can make a copy of the whole knife. The copy you build may not be identical to the original as you might find that you want to make changes to the design. If you have no desire to build the spacers, screws, pivots, etc., then you can use the ones from the knives you tore apart. You're going to find that making the frame and liners is as much work as the blade and in some cases, more work.

Email me, I have a diagram for a coke bottle which was posted some years ago. It make a very good templete for a nice folder. I am in Ca as well. send me your contact info and we can talk.
