Hello all,
I was wondering if anyone could help me out in deciding on a really nice EDC. Ideally I want something with a blade between 2.5 to 3'', with a cost under $100. This is a knife I'm just going to use for every day tasks and carry around both at home and at work (in a professional enviroment). I'd like something fairly comfortable to use with good ergonomics (I have light carpal tunnel syndrome). I've had good experience with spyderco and columbia river knife and tool, but I'm open to explore other brands. Thanks alot.

Welcome to the forum, Anthroman!

Spyderco Native FRN. Feels great, cuts great, can be found online for $50-85. If you're into the 'supersteel' thing, it was in CPM440V and now is being sold in CPMS30V. The stainless model is really nice, too, and also has a 'supersteel', AUS-10.

Great ergonomics, great price, great looks. I'm sure the other good folks (and even the bad folks) have a lot of good suggestions, too.

Consider the Camillus CUDA EDC. Great ergos and quality and comes in at about $60 in 154CM.

Welcome to the Forums!:)

i have to agree with the bad guy about the delta z. im currently at work carrying one of the 6180 skeleton models. there on sell also...

I will second knifenerds recommendation for the Camillus E.D.C. but I would also recommend getting the D2 version from A.G. Russell. VERY NICE. It will cost you about $90.00 shipped.

Anthroman, welcome to Bladeforums! Glad to have you join us!

The Osprey is a distinctive looking knife but the blade is over 3".

The Spyderco Native is one of the finest folders ever made, with a great general-purpose blade shape. It is also exceptionally easy to grip -- I would recommend the FRN version rather than the stainless steel handle for this.

Another good choice came up in recent threads with Drivie: the Benchmade Mini-Griptilian. Also excellent steel, grip, and compact size. While I like the simplicity of the Native's lockback, the axis lock of the Griptilian is also strong and reliable. And if you're looking for something less "tactical", it comes in different handle colors!

I like the CUDA EDC myself, in fact, the original custom version is actually the knife I carry every day. The Camillus version is an excellent copy for a lot less money.

Hmm, the knives with 2,5-inched blades pretty rarely display good ergonomics, their handles usually ate too little to handle them safely and comfortably. SPYDERCO makes some models what could be considered as exceptions of this rule, please take a careful look onto their Salsa, especially titanium version.

It is very comfortable and secure to handle, more than decent cutter too.
Their Delica could make very good starting point among 3-inched blades. Very handy piece, slim, lightweight and easy to carry, strong enough to hold most of daily cutting needs.

Totally ambidextrous, btw.

Katz knives make very decent lightweight pieces, the bottom one at the photo, Black Cat Lightweight with 3-inched blade.

If you would prefer premium materials Carbon Fiber knife with the same dimensions could be very sensible choice, very good ergonomics and probably could be found within $100 limit also.
CRKT Contrail makes lightweight, nicely looking and handy knife for everyday carry.

I could advise you to take a look also onto BENCHMADE Mini-Griptilian, two blade versions to choose. I don’t have good photo, sorry.

I'm not big on the smaller ones but I would take a look at the Benchmade 705.

Great materials, lock and ergo's, I have 2 and both see carry time.

I'd also second the Native suggestion, nice comfortable knife.

Another vote for the Spyderco Native FRN. I would recommend trying it out in a store to make sure it fits your hand well (a few people have remarked they don't like it; the rest who have it generally love it, myself included). I would also try to get the new version with S30V steel.

However, it might be a little much for use in an office environment. Personally, I don't think it's all that big, and you can hold it closer to your hand using the finger choil, which makes it smaller-looking. But if it's not conservative enough, the titanium Salsa recommended by Serg would be my choice.

Personally, after having the passaround EDC, I'd go for the Native or Mini Griptilian before the EDC.

I would of reccomended all of those but for a linear lock choice Also a BM 350 (Mel Parude Manual). Here is mine but it didn't come in the mail today :( but when I handled the only one left at the store (it was a display model) I fell in love but I had to order it because the store discontued selling Benchmades (dumb choice on there part). It's incredbliy slim and comfortable in the pocket, but not flimsy at all when it comes to use, amazlingly the Zytel handles are very good. There is also an auto version but w/ T6 handles but I didn't order it because of legal issues.

You can get the BM 350 cheaper from other stores, I got it from PVK because I was ordering some other things at the same time.

BM Mini-Griptillian or a Delica would be my top two choices.

The EDC is a very nice little knife, but it did not fit my hand quite right and I did not like the blade shape for the kind of cutting I normally do (tie wraps, boxes, general computergeek/IT work).

Thank you for all your quick responses. It's nice to see a friendly forum. I checked out some of the knifes and I like the native, but its just a little too big. I think I am going to go with the Delica, it fits into my size range, will keep the costs down, and I know a place where I can get one in town. If I can find a store that carries the mini-griptillian I will give that a consideration as well.

Anthroman,
You certainly can’t go wrong with Delica, however I have one crazy idea more.

This is SPYDERCO Calypso Junior Lightweight. Currently it is discontinued but more than likely you could found some on-line and/or in knife stores. It has very ergonomic handle and thin high performance edge created with fully flat grind on VG-10 steel blade. Totally ambidextrous, this one is set up for left hand carry.
If you could – buy it! Delica is SPYDERCO bestseller and you could manage to get it later.

I agree the BM mini grip is an excellent choice but at the price, you can't go past the Delta-Z Osprey at $30.00. Get in quick though!:)

Sergiusz Mitin,
The calypso was actually my first choice but I've had a really hard time finding the lightweight with a plain edge. It's a shame that they decided to discontinue it. IF anyone knows where to order one please let me know.
