Is there a knife maker that would grind a folder blade(just the blade) for me to make into a folder? I just finished one but the maker won't do another. I was hoping to make a Devin Thomas damascus folder in a framelock. Trying to order finished is too expensive. It will only be a small(2 1/2) inch blade.I did one in a titanium framelock and came out okay ,I just can't do any blade grinding.

I've always wondered why knife makers don't make after market blades for folders, seems they would be a drop in item given the make and model. It would be a great business opportunity for someone.
Lets say a person owns a particular knife w/ a damaged, or blade w/ not so good steel but likes the handle / lock etc.

Part of it is that to get a good fitting lock up and smooth operation takes some fine adjustment. Production knives can do this by laser cutting the blades and lock mech so that they are all nearly identical. I bet some of the high end ones still need a craftsman to do the final adjustments. Several relationships are very critical. One could make a blade and a then another fit a lock and a frame to that, But without the frame and lock, I would hate to try to make a blade and think it would fit. Yes I could make a blade to fit the Buck 110 frame I have. Would it fit all 110 frames and locks well?

See what I do is have the sharp side of the blade all finished except for heat treating and the end part that locks open for fitting the lock. It really is not too hard to fit the blade into an existing handle as long as there is metal to work with which is crucial to making it work. I know STR does this very well! After everything fits, heat treating and cryo to finish it.Also, preferably blade is not made too sharp before working it.

Sorry Aljandrino I didn't mean to but in on your thread, and thanks for the info ib2v4u...........

No, I never even thought you did! I would appreciate any input. That would be a great idea for a maker to put new blades in older folders to update to new steels!
