After going to the Moive's with my friends today to see 2012 (Great Movie) one of my friends saw my Spyderco in my pocket and now he want's a knife. He said he likes how the Spyderco feels but not so much of the hole. I know, he's insane but could you fine gents suggest a less then $30 knife for my buddy? I'm thinking KA-BAR Folding Hunter. Any other suggestions would be great.

Also he loves my Tanto Blur but I took out the AO so it's Manual and he says he dosn't like the assisted ones and that it is too pricey.

Steer him toward Kershaw IMO

Zing , OD-1 are both reasonably priced , heck for that matter the EnrgII is VERY reasonably priced !!! and on sale on certain net shops...

OR...... what about the Ka-Bar Dozier folders ? For about 20 bones he can have a great folder.

If your friend's limit is $30,
With no opening hole, your friend should be looking at the Ka-Bar Dozier line. They are made in Taiwan, have 3" AUS8 blades, and most have an opening stud. In the online stores they run just under $20. The Large Dozier is ~$25 online and has a 3 1/2-inch blade.

If your friend can deal with an opening hole, he could look at the Spyderco Byrd line made in mainland China. The alloy a Chinese alloy similar to AUS8, but is normally a higher HRC than the Byrds. Lots of models at ~$20 Range

There's also the Kershaw Skyline. I have rarely heard anything bad about that one. It has both studs and a flipper for fast or slow opening as desired. Also it available through Wallmart so he may be able to get a feel for it before purchasing.

Yeah, i'm thinking a KA-BAR will be the way to go with him, but once he gets one he will be hooked. He's not like poor but he dons't want to spend alot of money on something him might not get into.

There are some nice choices in the Boker Plus line as well. The Buck Mayo line (Hilo...Cutback..etc.) are great values as well and in the price range your friend is looking at.

My first choice would be something from Kershaw though. Vapors are nice...Skylines....Centofante...NRGs.....lots of good stuff.

If he is willing to go around 3 to 4 dollars more on a Spyderco, why not a Tenacious, couple internet sites have them for mid $30's range. Of course you half to pay shipping, but for an extra, what 10 to 11 dollars over $30(shipping included), you get one of the best bang your buck folder out there. If not I agree, the Folding Hunter is a great choice. Yourcornerstore has the best prices... BUT beings he does not like the deployment hole, then my best guess is definitely the Folding Hunter line from Ka-Bar.

I think he wants something a little bigger then a native, like 3 inch blade and up.

I think the best choice is the Ontario RAT 1. I paid $25.95 for mine, it has a 3 1/2 inch blade, no hole, ambidextrous with a clip that can be moved to one of 4 locations (left/right & top/bottom) and thumb stud both sides of blade.

Is KnifeCenter good? I have only bought from KnifeWorks. And I think he wants something a little bigger then a native, like 3 inch blade and up.

I've bought a few from them and have nothing but good things to say about them. Coincidentally, I bought my Native from them :D It's the s30v native, though.

I'd recommend the persistence or tenacious any day. Both can be had around $30, but those have the spydie hole. If he can't get over that, just take him to walmart and check out a bunch of Kershaws. I don't really like the entry level Kershaws personally, I find Spyderco's cheaper knives to be much better, TO ME. But there's a reason Kershaw is very popular.

Ontario Rat-1, Byrd Cara Cara, Byrd Raven, Byrd Flight are also great knives for the price.

+1K! The Ontario RAT1 it is. It has all the things you are looking for as GH said and its built tough. Your friend will make you buy one as well :D

Many good suggestions already.

Byrds, Kabar Doziers, and the Boker Trance are some of my favorites.

Any chance he'd like a Swiss Army Knife? Having scissors, a saw, bottle opener, etc might be more useful to him (or not). Many choices of SAKs for <=30.
