Just fish around in Sales area, I've seen one for $100 here last week. Great knife BTW, I take it backpacking with me. Good luck.

thanks if itll be good enough i dont mind spending more to get it but i dont wanna waste my money on a display piece. sounds good though i geuss ill have to save up a bit

i have about $130 to spend

Buy 12 Opinels at 10 bucks a piece and you should have all the knives you'll ever need, according to the requirements that you've stated.

D2 will keep an edge for a loooong time.

+1 on the dozier from ag russell. also +1 on the ritter rsk knife . link to dozier designed ka-bar: http://www.agrussell.com/knives/by_maker/e_through_k/kabar/kabar_aluminum_handle_folding_hunter.html

both are fine choices. the dozier is RIGHT handed only.... i like the idea of 2 dozier design knives for $100...why?

in an emergency, 2 is 1 and 1 is none.

plus, someone else with you during the emergency will appreciate you having an extra knife for them!

dont forget a multi tool. :)

thats a good idea but they wont all fit in the kit. the Doug Ritter RSK Mk1 looks just about perfect and not to pricey that it cant be replaced. having trouble finding many quality knives here in the u.k there is far to much ninja stuff on army surplus sites, its about time we had a good inexpensive place to buy equipment.

I have both the full-size and mini "Ritter grips". I EDC the mini and carry the full-size when out camping or hiking. They are wonderful knives. Some complain about the "plastic" handle, but I like it - very light weight, good shape, and, well, grippy.

By the way, A while back Doug Ritter had mentioned that RSK Mk1's shipped to the UK are "customized" by tightening the hinge screw a bit more than usual so that you won't get into trouble having a knife that can be flipped open one-handed ... so the knife won't get confiscated in UK customs.

Doug also pointed that it is easy enough to back off on the tightness once you get the knife - if desired.

FYI, the pivot screw uses a T10 Torx head. The clip screws use T6 Torx head.

Also, don't forget to save your pennies to by a Spyderco Sharpmake Tri-angle sharpener to keep your blade sharp. Great system!!

There are alot of knives that would be great for a survival kit, but here are just a few suggestions:

Spyderco Salt I
Spyderco Native III
Spyderco Native
Benchmade 556 Mini-Griptilian

But possibly the best deal that you will find is....

The Camillus CUDA EDC with 154CM blade-steel.

All-steel construction
Strong frame-lock
Nice recurve with lots of belly
Flat-ground blade
A beautiful design by custom maker Darrell Ralph
And you can find them for about $50.00

Do a search and you will find some nice reviews done by Buzzbait.

Good luck,
Allen.

seems a good choice to buy from the u.s. from a choice point of view, but i cant afford to get screwed by customs.

Tactical folders will be inferior to fixed blades for survival purposes. A Buck Mini-Strider will come close, and it comes in spear point if you don't want a tanto, and the tanto doesn't have a sharp point anyway. Several of the higher-end Spydercos are said to be tough as well as is the Al Mare SERE. The only one of the "survival folders" I have experience with is the Mini-Strider.

If you don't want a folder doing the work of a fixed blade and want tools instead, I'd recommend the Victorinox Huntsman or one of their larger locking models.

If you are concerned about UK customs, call/email http://www.aeromedix.com and ask them if they've had any problems with seziure of their knives. Based on other forums I know they've sent knives to the UK.

How about a carbon steel Griptillian or Mini-Griptillian? Cabelas carries a D-2 Benchmade Griptillian and Mini-Griptillian for $79.99 and $69.99 respectively.

:D $69.99. do you have any experience with them? if so what are they like?

Generally speaking, lock blade knives are illegal in the UK. It may well be confiscated if detected by HMC.

Wellywasp, have you visited bushcraftuk.com/community and posed this question to your brothers and sisters in the UK? Many of them own fixed blades and may know of a good source for folders in your neck of the woods.

i have emailed the folks at http://www.aeromedix.com and they say theyve never had any problems sending to the u.k but they cant promise anything. I have never had any problems buying lockers here but there generally isnt the range. www.hennie.com carries quite a few spydercos and a few benchmades aswell the problem is their prices. www.extremeoutdoorgear.co.uk seems to have all the models at decent prices but its mainly special order which would take a few weeks. i think ill wait into the new year and buy from the u.k when the funds have built up maybe get a surefire while im at it:thumbup:
