Folder for Christmas???

Another one to consider would be the A.G. Russell Acies, which is manufactured in the USA by Kershaw.

Lifetime Warranty, and it has many premium features:

Titanium Framelock
ZDP-189 steel Drop Point Blade
Uses Hinderer Stabilizer
Switchable pocket clip for tip up or tip down carry

Just another option I thought I'd throw out...cost $375

That one is sure in the mix, thanks - I've never heard of the Acies. My only concern is the ZDP steel. I've had it on 5 or 6 Spyderco's and I remember that I had a pretty difficult time sharpening it, also I remember it chipping pretty easily (my Caly chipped pretty bad and so did my Delica, but not as bad).

Rat Trap, its close to a Busse Folder :D

I've never heard of the Acies either. Looks nice but a little more $ than I'd spend on it. I'm surprised to hear of your ZDP-189 experience. My brother has a ZDP-189 Delica 4 that he's used HARD on a daily basis that's stood up very well. He convexed it via the mousepad technique and it's a pretty amazing edge hoder that hasn't chipped as far as I know. I bought him a Para 2 with S90V last week for his birthday and asked him to use it and compare it to the ZDP-189. I've had S30V chip on me but not ZDP-189.

Huh! Too bad I don't have any knives with ZDP anymore. IIRC, I ran my ZDP Caly over some staples and that's why it chipped (so the chipping was completely my fault) but I just couldn't get it sharp after that. I can't remember how I chipped my ZDP Delica. Moreover, I don't really know how to work with convex edges. :o.

I have to pick my top-five sometime today. I'm open to any and all suggestions. FWIW, for the past 6 months or so I've been switching between a Spyderco Para-1 and 2 (both in s30v). I have had a Para2 for a while (since they 1st came out) but I’ve been carrying my Para1. I forgot about my Para2 and just started carrying it about a week ago.

I just received my ZT 0551 yesterday. Great knife, and a superbly-executed design. Although I like the single-piece titanium handle simplicity of the Lion Steel SR-1, I have to admit that the ZT 0551 appeals to me a tad more. In terms of a frame-lock folder, I think that the ZT 0551 gives the most bang or the buck, given today's offerings.

This may be too small/light/cheap for you and it's an Axis not a framelock, but the Ritter s30v stonewashed Griptillian from Knifeworks is a fantastic value, and one of my everyday-use favorites...
