Not Gonna Lie im not 100% faithful to any 1 maker.
I carry Spyderco, Emerson , Benchmade Folders on a daily baisis.
Looking for a Knife that i Can abuse and put through hell in carrying daily / Gutting game, cooking food.. You know ect ect ect

Ive got a Milie, some Delicas, an endura or 2, and a Civilian.
Love the size and Feel of the Civie

wondered what you guys think of the Chnook III for general abuse ect..

THanks for listining.

Shoot if you ask me if and when Spyderco puts together the features seen in the Manix, Mini Manix, Chinook and Atlantic Salt they'll have the perfect companion for that new fixed blade they named the Rock Salt.

I'd take along an Atlantic Salt as it sits now for most of the general tasks you speak of but in my mind if the blade on that model was a bit thicker stock, you know something you could baton through some firewood with, and the handle a bit more robust or with G10 and ti liners with a lock on par with the above mentioned knives you'd then have the perfect all around go anywhere, swim anywhere folder for the woods, jungle or marine environment.

Make it an all H1 hardware and blade with a titanium frame, heck even a traditional frame lock and you have that much more to be comfortable about with the open design.

You know how tough the Military can be. The Manix and Chinook are a step up in masive durability.

I prefer the feel of the Chinook's handle. It's not as restrictive as the Manix's. The flat ground Chinook III blade is ideal for just about any use, from self defense to skinning.

Of course, it is heavy, but you're looking for big and strong.

What's better than one Chinook?

How about 3-4 Byrds for the same price? If carrying them around isn't going to be an issue, i'd rather have 4 value blades in my pockets than one expensive one for long-lasting performance and durability.

If. If the Byrds can do the job of a Chinook. I have a lot of small knives. Very useful and convenient, at varying levels of cost and quality. Some jobs need soemthing larger. Which Byrd would you recommend as a camp knife?

A G-10 Cara Cara is a good choice in my opinion. Good price too.

i have to say im now almost 100% faithful to spyderco and the chinook III is now a main component of my EDC. Its true that it is heavy and massive in general but it will take whatever you can throw at it. I highly recommend.

The Chinook and the Manix are both a step up...... but they both step up just a little differently.

Manix has a deeper handle, but Chinook's flat butt end makes it more suitable in the event of having to hammer something.

Manix has more blademass... but the Chinook has a higher secondary bevel.

Well after some STR magic, I can see why it's a winner :) I’m currently carrying one of your waved pac salts that I bought from another member here, but I might have to look into one of those bad boys to compliment it.

i was gonna say that.

i remember one forumite posted a rundown of his caracara after a long abusive jungle trek. he disassembled it etc, some parts were rusty but considering the price he said he got far more than his money's worth of performance.

a chinook iii will perform better than a caracara. it will also cost you at least 4x as much. is it 4x better a performer? i think not.

I carry a Spyderco Military AND a Benchmade Presidio when camping/backpacking
that way you get the best out of both worlds

Ill Cast a vote for the manix While I admit to never having used a chinook I just love my Manix So much. I use it more than any other knife. I use this knife and a small hatchett almost exclusiveley for camp chores. I do have a small salt as a backup but it almost nese leaves my pocket.

what you are looking for is a fixed blade. many folders will do alot of reasonable tasks quite well, but it sounds like you might not be so reasonable.

im not realy reasonable. i do usuallay carry a Fixed blade ( Gerber LMF, RAT TAK, Gonna order a Chris reves soon) but im looking for a tough bullet proof folder to carry.

Even considered a Strieder but have a hard time dropping $500 on a blade which is why i looked at Spyderco
