A while back I made up this belt carrier for a large Zebu Folder and a Doan Tool. The idea was to be able to carry this large slip joint and a firemaker on a dayhike without having them weighing down my pocket. I made it out of wet-formed leather treated with a beeswax/neatsfoot oil concotion that I cooked up myself.

Now that I've been using it a while it really has started to grow on me. Especially when paired up with a machete. I like the concept enought that I'm planning to make a similar set-up for my Vic Huntsman. I don't think it would be that hard to do something like this in kydex. Mac

i like the rig, i was thinking about something like this with my cold steel baron machete and a folder.

Nice...I don't think kydex would be hard at all (especially with some of the talented guys around here) That leather sure is purdy though

I had JRE Industires make up this combo sheath for my BRK&T Golok and Lil' Chute. I usually just stick it under my belt pirate style but I have worn it on a paracord over one shoulder.

Looks cool. I don't like a lot of stuff on my belt so for me I think it woud better to have the machete sheath with the knife and fire tool sheath built in along the blade.

It does stay nice and flat and gives the knife good retention with just a pressure/friction, molded fit. For added security I use a snap-link attached tot he belt but only use that when hiking. This was my solution for carrying a slipjoint with no pocket clip. Normally I just clip a folder to my pocket, but I have had them come off on vines in dense brush. This rig is real handy. I also made one up for my son with a small sheepsfoot slipjoint and a BSA hotspark.

I used the Doan tool because I normally have one lashed to the machetes I loan out. When it comes time to demonstrate the tool it is handy to have one readily accessable. Mac

Pic if you don't mind I might steel that idea and make 1 for myself...accept for my vic rucksack and a ferro,,and maybe a small stone....I remember how cool I thought it was when you first posted it...Also I'm glady your posting more lately...Cheers

pict- Just curious, have you found that the weather and humidity make it difficult to keep your leather in good shape?

pict I like your set-up alot! Very practical and I like the idea of using a folder (my preference) and a machete-again something I use! Good job man!

OK here´s the scoop on machete sheaths in Brazil. There are mass produced "field hand grade" sheaths that are butt ugly but serviceable. They have ugly leather, ugly stitching, indifferent workmanship, but they hold a machete just fine.

Then there are hand crafted works of art made in small saddle shops by individual makers. These are always 2- 3x the price of a new machete but they really are awesome sheaths. I never find these in other than ones or twos. I buy them for my own collection even when I don't have the blade yet.

There is a middleground type of sheath. They are a higher quality small scale production sheath. The one in the photo is that kind. It originally had a leather strap/buckle hanger that I modified with a belt loop. There's a better photo of it in the bark cordage thread I started a while back. Mac

OK, ummm, really?
2-3x the cost of a regular machete? So "works of art" sheaths are. . .$20 or so?

Umm, will they ship to the states?
Can they be bribed to?

Can YOU be bribed to?

I will be headed back to the US in August for a year. I am planning to buy up some sheaths and offer them for sale on e-bay. I'll see what I can come up with. The only sheaths I run into here are all made for the Tramontinas Latin pattern machetes, no Bolo's and no Ontarios. Mac

I assume the Trams sold here are the same as sold there?

Can always front the cash for a $6 blade to go in a nice sheath, LOL.
