Folder making question.

How many of you guys set the detent prior to heat treat?

Well, you know I do! I just did the detent on this one this morning and then immediately heat treated the blade once I had it dialed in. I have yet to grind the blade....but tomorrow is another day.

For me, it's the next to last thing I do. Sharpening is the last step.

I set it after I cut out the lock. I use a carbide drill to drill the hardned blade.

Well, since I learned from Kit! It took me like 40 + folders to figure this out! Theres always some last minute tweeking etc so I now take it to an extreme. I finish everything even sharpening before I set the liner lock ball detent. I also bead blast the liner so theres no excuse for a perfect fit while in the closed position. The last thing I do is the name engraving.

I drill the detent recess as one of the final steps. I do some finish work afterwards but nothing that would change the alignment (i.e. Filework).
