Folder Pivot: Sextbolt vs Pivot Barrel?

Taking a break from fixed blades and want to make some friction folders. I went to order up some supplies and wasn't sure if I should use a sextbolt (with single screw) or a pivot barrel (with 2 screws, one for each end).

Thanks,
John

If the sex bolt is actually a sex bolt styled pivot it would be fine but can spin and be harder to tighten if it's smooth on one side. If it's just a standard cheap sex bolt that would be used in kydex work etc, it will be thin walled most likely, and soft steel. Proper pivot barrels are hardened steel so they don't score and wear out from the friction of the blade. Not sure if this is exactly what you were asking though.

These are what I'm asking about, both are heat treated and hardened for durability.

This would be the pivot barrel (2 screw, 2 tightening points)

I used both sexbolt and barrel, the only disadvantage is (as you already know) that the sexbolts are harder to remove when you used loctite to keep them from loosening.

It depends on how thick or thin your knife is.

The double screws need to have enough thread engagement.
On a thin knife that's possibly a problem

The single screw system only needs enough thread engagement for one screw.

Thanks everyone.. I have some of each coming and will see what works best for my needs. I'm sure they'll all get used up in time.
