Folder recommendations

Yep! I thought about the recurve too, but it turned out to be subtle and not a pain in anyway.

LOL! 60 bucks?? I got mine for 35'ish I think, but then that was almost three years ago. All who've got one sings its praises

Actually, My dad got it for him while on vacation in Germany so he may have paid around 60euros. At any rate, I know he's seen it cheaper in the states. It would be a good deal for under $100 IMO.

ok so i've been searching and looking like crazy...i've decided my budget of 40-60 just isnt enough for what im looking for, or even like..sooo im thinkin about 120 bucks will be my limit..i guess i can stop being cheap on my folders..i tend to carry them a lot more then any of my fixed blades...i've really considered the Bunchmade pardue mini..not to sure about autos here in Michigan tho..so i am going to have to look into that.

yeap, just checked michigan law and that is out of the question for a EDC.

I have used this knife so much it is silly. Today, I was can openerless so I used the Emerson instead. Hard to keep a man from his lunch.

I'm not big on springs or knives I can not take apart to clean. So for me that means liner locks or frame locks.

I had some Benchmade Axis locks an they are super smooth. But I can't take them apart to clean easily.

From hunting and fishing to heavy landscape work the Emerson has been great.

In that price range I can't suggest the Benchmade Bone Collector line highly enough.

I love mine.

+1!

I have had mine for more then a week now and cant put it down. D2 is great stuff, handle is very comfortable in heavy cutting and with some WD40 and compressed air you can keep anything clean.

I have not had the opportunity yet but I bought this knife for use on the farm, my Sebenza has been my user on the farm and wanted to give something else a try. For the price the materials you get is well worth it. BTW. I paid $230 for mine at $1 for R6.8, including tax, customs etc. Well worth the penny when you can get it for $120 in the states!

On a side not I have used the 550HG grip for the fram, hunting, dressing game, cutting irrigation pipe. Worked great.

Another one to consider is the Spyderco Endura. A great knife as well.

I need to get the word out how awesome for the price this knife is

I want an Anti REAL bad, but they need to stop the tacticool BS with the ceramic blade and use good ol' aus-8. I'd own a Manix but I simply can't get around Spyderco's ugly and impractical blade profiles.

ok, so i finally made a decision..i ended up ordering the Benchmade barrage mini...watched a few youtube clips and this looks pretty beefy and flips quick with no blade play at all, from what all others have said thanks for all the help..ESEE needs to hurry and release that Izula folder..this decision would have been a lot easier for me ...lol

amazon has this bad boy for 43 bucks..not a bad deal..looks kinda big for my personal EDC, but who knows once in hand i might consider it for an EDC

Why retire the Native? I had one in S30V and loved it. Sadly I lost it in a night fishing trip while camping. It was a bit flimsy and slow but did everyday task just fine.
I have been using a BM Griptilian PE 551 for the last three years and it has been great to me. Good size and was easy to open and close one handed with the Axis lock.
Just got a Spyderco Military PE today which will be taking the BM's place for a while. It is bigger but thinner than the BM. It is fast and the blade is a much better slicer and the choil is nice. Oh and I like big blades.

I don't carry a folder anymore since getting the Izula. But my last folder was a Benchmade Mini Griptillian. Very popular/common folder, but for a good reason. Very well made, very durable.

well im not really retiring it, its the all black full serration s30v..i rotate my spyderco, gerber answer, and my leatherman skelatool...just looking for some thing new to throw in the mix.

It seems to carry well because it's quite thin and has a great pocket clip. It is wide and not extremely light but I wouldn't call it to heavy either. For the price you will not regret buying one.

How a bout the sog twitch line? assisted opening with a thumb stud and flipper with lock back i had the II but sold it.

Wow.. where's the spyderco love? I thought there'd be more. Definitely take a look at The Endura and Delica series. Or military/paramilitary line if you have the $.

Well since you live in Michigan and were concerned about the legal issues I'll let you know that we have a 3" blade length limit, but assisted opening knives are still legal. That being said I have never been hassled for carrying my full sized grip which I love by the way, for the money I really don't think you can beat it. Let us know what you get and be sure to post up some picks of it.

Michigan -750.226... Carrying with unlawful intent
Any person who, with intent to use the same unlawfully
against the person of another, goes armed with a pistol
or other firearm or dagger, dirk, razor, stiletto, or
knife having a blade over 3 inches in length, or any
other dangerous or deadly weapon or instrument, shall
be guilty of a felony, punishable by imprisonment in
the state prison for not more than 5 years or by a fine
of not more than 2,500 dollars.

this states only with intent..now im no legal expert, but as this states its only with intent the blade can be no bigger then 3in..which actually doesnt make sense to me at all, unless you have a sign around your neck saying you intend to use it in an unlawfull manner against another... am i wrong?

on another note i did purchase the Benchmade mini barrage from amazon aaand i also did pick up the SOG Twitch 2.it looks sleek and pretty cool.and for 30 bucks cant beat that price

Moose,

I'm not entirely sure why you're looking at Auto/Assist models, but if I may, let me toss a couple of thoughts at you. First, I've killed the assists on no less than 3 Kershaws. They make fine tools, but the assists hardly lasted me a week of break in. That was on 2 Ken Onions and 1 Blackout. If you are looking for a fast open look no further than most anything that is not Auto/Assisted. I can one-hand-open a good folder much faster than any auto or assist I dare say. Plus, when you travel across state lines and even sometimes within states (in certain cities for example) you can wind up carrying a now illegal blade. Autos especially are unwelcome nearly everywhere. A 3" or slightly sub 3" knife while not the coolest kid on the block, (definitely wont get attention from mall ninjas) will be plenty useful and also wont garner much (any) attention from the PD.

I have to agree with your decision not to go line-lock. I had one close one me once when I had to do "the twist." I now carry a Delica 4 (love it, whish I got it sooner, woulda saved me money on several other knives). If I were to go with any other mechanism, I'd have to go with a BM Axis. I'm not sure but I think the Manix works on roughly the same principle, but I'm not sure (can anyone help me with that, or is it just an Auto knife?).

God bless,
Adam
