folder repair, help needed

I am repairing a old case folder for a friend. He has had it since he was a kid and now it had been damaged, BAD. So I am trying to repair it for him. I have copied the part, but it looks like a pin goes right where the spring sits. Above below, any advice for me.

As long as you can get the pin in, it will be fine.

That pin may lock the spring in place, once the pin is peened it will expand a bit.

Patrick. You don't want to lock the spring down tight on that spine, or it wouldn't depress.

Mungo - Just make things work by opening up the hole in the end piece or by shortening the spring end a tad if needed. You have lots of extra spring length there.
