Folder Scandi Reprofile

Any folder with any grind can be reprofiled to a true scandi. The question is, why would you? Is there something particular about a scandi grind that catches your attention?

Well, Eka makes some traditional styled Scandis, both with modern and traditional handles, Cold Steel has the Finn Wolf folder, and Enzo has a few Scandis in modern and traditional patterns. If none of those cover what you want, I can't think of anything you could get made that would, unless you contact a custom maker to get one done to your specs. If you do and want to keep it affordable, Walter Wells does great affordable custom folders, I love my green/black frag Wharncliffe front flipper.

Since a scandi is essentially a single zero grind on each side of the blade. You really do need to start with something that has pretty bad edge geomety (a Medford maybe?) to regrind it to a scandi.
I think you would be better off with a custom.
Pohan Leu is a great maker who is well known for his super sharp and durable scandi grinds.

Try a David Boye folder. It almost has a scandi grind, it's thin stock and about 60% of the blade is flat and not ground. His current production is a cobalt alloy, but his older knives can be found in 440C.

You can take any flat grind knife and make it Scandi, especially if it's not a thin flat grind. Try Queen, if you like slipjoints.

My understanding, after working on knives for several years is: A scandi grind only comes up 1/4 to 1/3 of the blade width (from edge to spine) and is zero ground . More than that (or that with a secondary grind) becomes a Saber grind, and once the grind reaches the spine it's a full flat. You can zero grind either of the last two without it becoming a scandi.
