I've posted a question about folder screws before without much help. I cannot get the search function to work. I plan on buying supplies to make some liner lock folders (larger folders) If I was to buy one size screw what type is most common 0-80, 2-56 ect. Or any suggestions appriciated.
Thanks
Wil

I have been using 2-56 and they are a real pain due to the size. 0 -80 would be a real strain for me. Get pan head and some flat head to countersink, I just get boxes of 1/2" length since nearly all need to be cut to fit. McMaster Carr and Grainger have a good selection by type, size, metal and finish.

Hi Will , I'm not sure "one size" would cover all applications. I would say that if you picked up 100 of each 0-80 , 1-72 and 25 ea. of 2-56 & 6-32 you would have pretty much all of your bases covered for many different folders. 0-80 & 1-72 for scales, liners, stand-offs etc. , 2-56 works well for 1/8" pivots , 6-32 works well for 3/16" pivots. Button Heads and flat heads are probably the most used types, verses SHCS (socket head cap screw) type in the 0-80 & 1-72 while Button Heads would be my choice for pivot pins if you were going to use a pin/screw type pivot.

I use 0-80 in my small to med folders and 1-72 in my large ones. I get most of mine from R.B. Johnson.

I prefer 2-56 myself for the scales, bolsters, pocket clips and such and for the pivot I use barrels that come with screws. The 1/8" come with 2-56 and 3/16 with 6-32 but I've seen them in 3/16 set up with 4-40 threads too and even 2-56 from knife kits if they still sell them. I think Jantz sells some 13/64 pivot barrels and I have noted on more than one custom I have had here for pocket clips where the blade needed to be taken out to thread for tip down carry some equipped with 5/32 barrels and also 7/32. In fact I have one of the latter ones on my bench now. Wish I could find those for myself actually.

gixxer are those torx screws though? Seems to me when it never says in the description they are hex head. I won't use hex anymore after using torx. Well, not in #2 sizes anyway. Hex just strips too easy.
