folder suggtestions under 100

Pretty much. I may be leaning towards the bead blasted finish, though. :)

I really like the 0200, 302 and 350. Damn you ZT I can't even afford one right now!

I have too many knives right now or I would buy one, I like the 0301. :D

I am not sure which model that is. I even looked through the 09 catalog.

Sorry, didn’t realize that I forgot to say what model it is.

As far as the “hard use” question goes, having owned many of the other knives recommended I wouldn’t hesitate to say that the Manix 2 is as strong.

Here’s a quote from Sal along those lines.

The lock is strong, self adjusting and offers no play. the new Manix broke well into the "very heavy duty" range (MBC). It's stronger than the earlier Manix but at a lower weight and it's easier to clean. The beauty of the ball lock is that all of the strength is within a small area arojund the pivot and ball. Liners are not even necessary as in competitive locks. In addition, action on the ball locks is exceptional.

Think of it as a high-performance, light-weight tank.

Considering how robust the original Manix is that’s quite an endorsement.

I am kind of tempted to save up for a ZT. I have been looking through the ZT catalog just drooling over them. Model 0300, 0350, and 0500 are my current favorites.

I think something like that would be your best option personally.

For super stong folders ZT and Strider are your best bets. There are some High end CS knives too, but they cost more than the ZT knives.

You said $100 budget. The ZT0350 can be had for $110. ;)

I'm all about saving for an 0200. Maybe a 302, but I probably won't be willing to pay $230 for the 302.

The blade is 3 1/4" on the 0350 a little shorter.

Not sure what the OP wanted in blade length, but I was thinking around 4".

I don't believe he specified.

I tend towards 4" myself.

Save up for that big ZT. I've researched them a good bit online and everybody just loves these things. :) The only complaint anybody ever seems to have, other than blade coatings usually be present, is weight. And quite frankly that doesnt bother me a bit. Heck, I may even prefer it to be a little heavier. I can handle carrying around 4 oz more. I guess that means I'm strong? lol I just don't get why some people worry about an ounce or two....

I dont really have a preference for blade length, but 3-4 is a good range. Im not really into any folders that are over 4.5-5 inches.

Well I am sticking to my recommendation for ZT for a super strong folder approaching fixed blade performance then. :D

I like knifeworks, and they carry them. Not the absolute lowest prices, but very competitive, good service, good rep, excellent website that is very easy to navigate and find what you want. newgraham carries them as well.

Thanks for the help you guys. There seem to be a lot of recommendations for ZT in the tactical/ hard use category.

I have some researching to do.

Feel free to leave other suggestions if any one thinks of great knives under or around the 100 mark. I will check back.

Thanks

+1 for anything from ZT, or the Tyrade.

If you are really strict on your budget, check out the Kershaw Junkyard Dog II Composite Blade. Awesome knife for ~$70, very tough.

I thoroughly recommend http://www.2brothersknife.com and http://www.newgraham.com

I'll cast another vote for the ZT 0500 Mudd. It's worth saving for, and if you don't like recurves like me, this is the ZT to look at. It's a little bulky, and I don't like the coating either especially on a stainless steel blade, but it's as close to fixed blade performance in a folder as I've owned.
