folder that feels like a fixed blade?

My Gunhammer from DDr is the most solid folder I own, over my sebbies and striders. The AR feels like a fixed blade though with the way the handle is and its overall balance to me. The sebenza soesnt feel like a fixed blade to me because of the squarness of the handles so with me eyes closed it still feels like a folder. The ruckus however also feels like a mid sized fixed blade.

For folders that feel like a fixed blade, my two choices would be a well-made bali or a Scott Cook Lochsa.

I don't know much about Scott Cook's knives, but I'll second the notion that a bali-song style folder is the closest thing to a fixed-blade that you'll find.

I would say the Sere 2000, its big, thick, fairly heavy, and built like a tank, but I do have to warn you, because its my newest knife I'm a little compelled to promote it.

Benchmade balisongs are also solid, but lack the heft (at least those with titanium handles) and blade thickness of the Sere.

Bench Made 420 Resistor or the BM made HK34/14200 are both very solid feeling big thick handles with the super axis lock.

If you want a real big one go for the RUKUS 610.

Any of these are great for what you want.

I like the al mar sere 2000 and
emerson commander
benchmade 710 also

considering how tough the commander is, i suppose the emerson HD7
is amazingly tough!

too bad its 249$ :(

How could I have failed to mention the Rukus! It does indeed have the fixed blade feel with the thickness of the grip and fixed blade solidness with the Axis lock.

I just got a Strider SnG, and it is solid as a rock. Its proably actually tougher than some fixed plades.

The knives that immediately come to mind that are folders that feel like a fixed blade, are the Strider AR & GB!!

If you don't mean shape but you mean the lock-up and the solid feeling of the knife, IMHO many frame-locks feels like fixed blades. I have and Emerson HD-7 that feels very solid. Wouldn't treat it as fixed blade though.

Agreed, the BM Rukus is simply amazing with its solid feel, like a fixed, if a folder can be considered to be equilavent. The Chinook is rock solid, but with the narrow frame and size, it feels like a folder still. The BM Skirmish is close as well with its size and feel to a fixed, but the narrow grips give it a folding feel still.

That's out of production, isn't it? A shame. Damn nice knife.

If I was listing OOP knives, I would have pointed him at a Gerber Parabellum. :)

It is going to be interesting to see the Trident folder when it arrives. I just don't see how it could be anything but strong! I wonder if it will be built along the lines of the AR/GB series of knives, or will it be a framelock? Guess we will just have to see.:D

Don't forget, that no matter how solid it feels, there is nothing worse than prying with a folder, and turing it into a fixed blade (you'll have a "fixed" handle in your other hand)

Scott

You beat me to the Kershaw folding field knife. I believe this concept was the whole idea behind this knife, hence the name. Definitely feels like and behaves like a heavy fixed blade in your hand.
