I need a folder with a blade less than 2'' for work. They consider anything with a blade 2'' or bigger a weapon :jerkit: . I was looking at the boker subcoms, kershaw chive, and a spyderco spin or lava. Right now I am leaning towards the subcom due to its price. Is this a good choice? which would you pick? Any other knives with a blade less than 2'' that I should consider? Thanks.

I haven't put a ruler on any of the Victorinox models, but a plain, old, red Swiss Army Knife should be about the most sheeple-friendly pocket knife out there. They are at least worthy of your consideration.

I've got the Subcom and the Spin and both are excellent knives. The Spin is a bit smaller but grips well and that thin blade is a razor. The Subcom is probably a bit more "industrial" and until you decide to lay out the money for a Spin, will do real well. Depending on what you'll be cutting, you might want to check out the partly serrated versions or even the Wharcom or Rescom.

The Lava looks like a nice grip also. I wouldn't feel as comfortable with the Chive, just for handling purposes. Since your company is worried about "weapons", they might see the assisted opening as a switchblade.

The Cricket generally gets seen as "cute", so that in itself might be a positive factor. :) Also, it's a great cutting tool with excellent steel.

I have been looking for a shorty for the same reason. My limit is a bit larger, as my company now has ruled that anything longer than 2 1/2" blade is verboten. (At that I am fortunate to work at a manufacturing site. The corporate headquarters has outlawed all blades. Must be a bean counter thing.)

One of the blades I have been considering is the Mouse Lite. The Mouse has a 1 7/8" blade. Read some nice reviews and do not remember any negatives.

The Boker subcom would also qualify for you. There have been a lot of complementary reviews about it. I do not remember reading any negatives.

The Spyderco Lava has, in my opinion, the best handle grip of the group mentioned above (Spin, Cricket, Subcom, & Mouse). I can actually "lock" the knife into my whole hand, unlike the other knives mentioned, which only give me a 2 or 3-finger grip at best. The cutting is approximately 1&1/2", leaving the entire blade just under 2". The Spyderco Lava is the best feeling "small knife" I've owned, aside from the Spyderco Dodo, which has a blade slightly in excess of 2". Chad "Daywalker" Los Banos and Spyderco really did a great job on this one!

Get a California legal automatic knife. They are not sheeple friendly at all but you'll be under 2" and it will tick off management. ;)

I have a Wayne Clark Sharktooth and it "thwacks" pretty aggresively when opened. I don't use it too often at work for that reason.

Also, any of the Protech California autos are pretty cool too. I don't own any but I've handled them in stores. I like the Protech Stinger myself.

There's only one potential problem with that. The original poster lives in Florida. Are you sure that Florida has a law like California's (PC 653k) that exempts autos/switchblades with blades under 2"?;)

I like the Kershaw Baby Boa. I carry one and just gave one to my father. Can be found for ~$42.

I wouldn't spend any serious money on such a knife. Your best bet would be to buy a Case slip joint, or, better yet, carry a 4-inch blade in defiance of your work's policy. The limit at a federal worksite is 2.5 inches, but I always carried a 4-incher AND a cheap Chinese 2-incher in the event I had an audience.

The knife limits are silly, too. We're stuck with these teeny knives, yet any one of us could open our top drawer and pull out a 6- or 7-inch pair of scissors. Think of it, that's two 6- or 7-inch fixed blades!

Knives are weapons but scissors are...scissors.

I own a DKD Shark Tooth and a Pro-Tech Runt. They ARE great littls CA.-legal autos, but they still seem to freak people out, esp. the Shark Tooth, but it sure cuts well.

The new Ladybug 3 is made with a VG-10 blade.

I have no knowledge of Florida knife laws. He asked for a sub 2" blade and I recommended one. It's his responsibility to know the laws of his own state/city.

So if they ban all knives longer than 2 inches, what do they use to cut birthday cakes?
I suggest you take all the knives from the kitchen that do not comply with the rules and throw them in the bin.
Maybe they'll get the message!??!
Also--does it have to be a folder? How about a Bark River Mikro fixed blade or something similar?
