:D
INFI FOLDER DEATH CHAT LIVES!!!!!

I like my Tripwire 7, but the bare g10 on the one half has me concerned.....yeah, yeah..I know G10 is "supposed" to be VERY strong.....but the steel lock/stop bar that goes through the Ti side...stops the blade...then goes into plain ole G10. What if I torque down on it( blah blah, I know a knife isn't a screw driver, but since using Busses, I use to think a knife wasn't a pry bar either;):D)...the weakest point break first and believe me.....the "point" on these are NOT weak:thumbup::thumbup:. I just can envision the g10 splitting and my hand running down the blade:eek::eek:

By the way....does anyone know if G10 is so hard is has little/no flex/give and will shatter, OR will it bend then break...or what?

I am just saying...should this be a concern?

An R&D dude at Benchmade told me G-10 has the same strength as steel. Dat's what he said.

I'm at work, nothing to fix and bored. So I tought I'd bump this back up.

I don't really have a good picture in mind of what your describing Jason, but I recall seeing a video of a Strider SNG or SMF...can't remember which...being struck with a hammer full force and still functioning...not broken in the least other than the obvious cosmetic damage. Pretty tough stuff. And I know Strider has the stop bar hitting the TI side and not even touching the G-10 side if that's part of what you were asking. If you look closely at the g-10 there's probably some funny looking filing/grinding in the recess where it looks like the stop pin is touching...that's where they backed it off so there was no actual contact.

that's where they backed it off so there was no actual contact

I had a couple that devloped some lateral blade play resulting from that (not sure though if there was 0 contact on mine - but at best it was minimal)- Sent one back to Strider and they enlarged the stop pin on the
g10 side to take care of it.

Hinderer on the other hand has a ti frame on both sides ;)

Concerning the question of toughness of G10 - I saw the video pbubsy mentioned as well (it used to be accessible via Strider's web site - might still be) it is very tough stuff, and from what I have heard is pretty impervious to fire as well.

There used to also be some pics there of a comparsion between a SMF & an Extrema Ratio Folder where they showed some screen shots of some direct lateral force from some type of press - and it looked like it the G10/Ti set up gave it some great flex ability.

BTW - PLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEASE MAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAKKKKKKKKKKKKKEEEEEEEEEEEE BUUUUUUUUUUUUUSSSSSSSSSSSSEEEEE FOLDER.

An INFI blade in a Scott Cook Lochsa.... Not that would be the ultimate folder...

Strider, Dwyer, Reeve, Cook, Busse, Hinderer Collaboration folder.

Until then my SMF Digi Camo (non CC you CC wuss's) holds the bill.

Btw I LOVE G-10, it's great.
