i am thinking of giving folders some time. i was wondering what would be an average size wood/micarta for the use for folders. i was thinking maybe 1x1x5 would be sufficient when sliced to scale form--any comments-thanks mark

I would go 1 x 1 1/4 x 4 or 5" I can only get the 1" wide material to fit certain knives I design. 1 1/4" is much better unless you are designing small 3-3 1/2 pcs. I like big slipjoints!:D

1/8" thick is usually sufficient for most folders and the rest of the dimensions should be more than sufficient I would think.
