Do you have a preference?
I have always sought after and preferred fixed blades. However I have recently been interested in folders because they just seem to get more use. Here is what I have so far:

Thinking of adding a Hinderer Firetac or CRK inkosi next. Thoughts?

I’ve learned that I can do any cutting tasks I’ll ever need to do with a folder and a hatchet. I don’t own fixed blades anymore.

I prefer folders for the ease of carry. I’ve never really felt like I needed a fixed blade for most of the stuff I use them for.

I notice you don’t have any Spydercos; I know they’re ugly, but they are fantastic knives. Never had any of the higher end knives so can’t speak on them, but others seem to like them.

Have to agree on them being really ugly. But I do agree that I should try one out. I have a bit of a spyderco itch but just can't seem to find a model that clicks.

I like a lot of fixed blades but have pretty much no use for them at this point and buying knives I know will go in a drawer and collect dust isn't what I am going for.
I own two fixed blades, a SOG Seal 2000 from my MilSim/Airsoft days and a Fox FS Dagger that I bought to scratch the dagger itch. But aside from them just folders.

Got them both.. Like them both.. Use them both.. That's my story.. John

Prefer fixed blades, but like smaller fixed blades with 2.5 to 3.25 inch blades. that being said, I find the Manly Wasp in Sandvik has been a frequent companion. Just handy and there when I need it.

I'm in the "use them both" category. I carry folders more, one in my pocket every day, but I tend to have more fun with my fixed blades. I've been taking my time chopping through a tree that fell over into my yard. I wanted to wait until Fall to really take it down anyway, so usually once a week I go back with my HI CAK and wail on it for a while. Of course my chainsaw would do it in no time, but it's not nearly as entertaining. And you surely couldn't do that with a PM2 either, haha.

I have both, I just traded a fixed blade for a Demko ad15. After playing with it, it seems like its as close to a folding fixed blade as I have ever felt. However both have there place as others have said, I dont bring a folder to cut grass and vines, I bring a machete. I dont bring a Machete to cut thick limbs, I use a Choppa (in the Machetes defense it can do it, I just dont like the sticking factor in thicker/harder wood). Folders are much more pocket friendly than my 6 inch camp knives. you get the idea, BUY ALOT OF KNIVES at least one for every occasion and dinner party.

Other than discrete carry around town I can't think of a single job I don't prefer a fixed blade over a folder.
Mostly carry smaller stainless neck knives handle down in kydex along with a 4-6 inch fixed blade on a dangler for woods use.
SAK alox farmer or a Kizer intrepid vanguard for a pocket knife.

Neither ever served me too well back at camp after a successful fishing trip. Even while fishing, one's far better off with nail clippers than a folder. Plus, don't forget your Silky saws -- they eat chopping tools for their morning source of iron.

When I'm in the woods, I already have enough stuff in my pockets that belongs in my pockets (map, compass, ferro, etc.) I'd rather not add a folder or a fixed to the belt. I've enjoyed a lot of fixed neckers for these reasons.

Edited for completion, thumb hit the post button on phone

I prefer using a fixed blade and carrying a folder. Since I do more carrying than actual cutting a folder is what works for me most of the time. Also harder for me to be as discrete with a 3.5" fixed blade than with a 3.5" folder in an office environment. Of course, when out in the bush I'll use the knife more often and have less concern with the perception of others so I'll carry a fixed blade over a folder (usually have both anyway though).

If you're stuck on which Spyderco to try out, take a look at the Gayle Bradley. I find it's one of the more "normal" looking models. Most every Spyderco model is very practical despite the looks though. ;)

I actually carry a folder in the city and in the woods. In the city, I prefer something in the 3"-3.5" area in the woods, my CS Swift with its 4" blade and Tri-ad lock. Occasionally carry this around town as well because I like it so much.

Personally a fixed blade is preferred.
But more often than not, a folder would suffice.
So long as one keeps within the legal limits as to what one can carry; i cannot foresee any reason why both can't be paired if there is a genuine sane purpose for its intent. ;-)
