Folders or fixed?

Those Land knives are the bomb and an unbelievable value at $20.

Im surprised the fake/clone CRK mob has not yet hi jacked this thread and bashed you yet. Just wait, they will point out your sins in short order.

I have and use both. My collection is around 60% fixed blades, the rest folders.

In general I use fixed blades when I am camping, hunting or fishing. I might carry a folder into the woods, but only as a backup, never as my primary knife. Fixed blades are far easier to clean up after cleaning fish or game, and if I find myself in trouble, in a survival situation, the fixed blade offers more options, benefits, and strength. Folder is just not going to make a good spear tip if that should be required for example, and if my hands are cold or frost bitten, I can still work with a fixed blade. May not be able to even open a slip joint folder.

Generally an EDC or a gentleman's folder is in my pocket day to day in the city, at work, or around the house. Easier to carry and doesn't attract unwanted or paranoid attention.

I agree
One of my cheapest but favourite of the bunch.
Also i would be suprised if I get bashed for it tbh. Its not a clone or fake and doesnt pretend to be. I mean, sure it looks ridiculously similar to a crk but it has independent name and doesnt pretend to be something else.
Also its the reason I want to buy a CRK now.

I personally prefer fixed blades (if they have good ergos and a GREAT sheath), and carry them on my belt whenever I can do so legally, usually a Bradford Guardian 3 or Spyderco Street Beat. Unfortunately, there are a few nearby cities and counties that make that a challenge, so I occasionally carry a Manix2 or SAK Farmer instead, when I go to places that require it.

Then again, I'll grab task-specific knives, like my favorite Mora Robust for wood processing for the backyard fire pit or the fireplace, or a Mora Companion for breaking down cardboard boxes, or my machete for knocking small branches off of big branches that the trees in the yard have recently dropped, like the 18 foot maple branch that came down the other day... I have folders that work to replace everything but the machete, but I usually like the feel of the fixed options in my hand more than the folders.

Use what you like and what works for you -- so long as it is legal where you are. Enjoy.

I like folders. I don't own any fixed blades and have no desire to. They are just not for me.
I am finally starting to understand that. There is 2-3 fixed I want to try before finalizing my favourite two and selling the rest. Then ill move to exploring folders more.

Feel free to post photos of some of your favourites :D

Generally, I'm a folder guy. I just prefer carrying them over fixed blades.

I have 4 fixed blades though, because I do love knives. I've had a bunch more, but they inevitably get sold.

Neither ever served me too well back at camp after a successful fishing trip. Even while fishing, one's far better off with nail clippers than a folder. Plus, don't forget your Silky saws -- they eat chopping tools for their morning source of iron.

When I'm in the woods, I already have enough stuff in my pockets that belongs in my pockets (map, compass, ferro, etc.) I'd rather not add a folder or a fixed to the belt. I've enjoyed a lot of fixed neckers for these reasons.

Edited for completion, thumb hit the post button on phone

It seems we have different needs. Your choices make sense for what it seems you do. My choices have served me very well.

I've got both.
Started out with fixed blades for hiking and fishing and, you know, general outdoorsy stuff.

Then I discovered folders.

These days I only buy and use folders, as it's much more practical for my everyday life, and also because i love trying out new locks and openings.

Still got all my fixed blades, but they've been delegated to camping trips.
