Folders - Peen into micarta?

In the last couple of days, I've seen a couple of threads of folders with pivots that seem to be peened directly into micarta without any metal bolsters.

Are the folders in those two threads actually just peened right onto the micarta, or are they using some other method?

If they are peened, do you need to do anything special? Do you use a countersink, or does the micarta spread enough without it?

I made one of those knives, and I did countersink the micarta. I doubt it was the best way to do it, but I ruined one set of scales trying to get it set for a metal washer in the micarta. Underneath the micarta, there are stainless steel liners, which take most of the brunt of the tension from the spring. But to answer your question, I did peen the pivot pin and I did countersink the micarta.
