Folders, steel liners?

Here's the way I like to think of knives and steel liners:

Would you drive your car in an abusive manner if someone yanked out its frame, or would you be real careful and have a reservation or two using it, as the body panels, drivetrain, etc., have no support, and, in a crash, the vehicle would have no reinforcement or integrity??

In essence, that's the way I see it with a knife. Without its frame---the liners---it doesn't have a support mechanism for the pivot pin (besides the scales), the scales, or any fixed base for the lock system to transfer energy or torque, etc. It doesn't have something to base its overall support on. In a general use knife, that might be fine---but if I'm going to seriously depend upon something, overbuild it please. :D

Aside from the SALT series, I don't think Sal and crew will develop much more linerless designs any more. The customers are used to it by now, so it would be seen as a step back, and I don't believe Sal will want to go that route ;)

Could be, could be. Only Sal knows what they will do. All I know is I'm just as enamored with my linerless Dodo and Micarta Goddard as I am my fully lined Enduras, Delica, P'kal, Lil Temperance, etc. They all have a place and purpose in my life and I'm content to believe Sal will be designing more knives with even better innovations, as newer materials and technologies are available.
