Folders that are strong enough for batoning?

While I have no experience with this one the cold steel 5 Max may also be an option. Although it looks to be quite a heavy beast, so maybe a nice, fixed blade would be an option. Good luck on your hunt which I find to be quite fun to do. More knives yeah! 😁

By the way I am not upset with a folder for a bug out bag.

Especially if you needed it quickly and are hanging around other people. Say during an evacuation or something.

My suggestion; use a fixed blade. Folding knives are for light duty cutting only even though the makers of 'tactical' and 'hard use' knives will make you believe something else.
Well...
I generally don't bother batonning with folders, but I bought the Medford Deployment 187 Drop-point Tanto specifically to test out the "hard-use" claims...

It'll chop down a small tree, and batons just fine for reasonably sized wood.
And the lock-up is still solid and no worse for wear.

So while it is tempting to dismiss all "hard use" ability claims as simply marketing, well, not the case.

Disclaimer: Fixed blade still better choice. Not responsible for anyone's missing fingers if they wail on a folder and it closes on them. ;)

Pick a Cold Steel Triad Lock folder of your preference and you should be fine.

Years ago I learned that most folding knives can baton if they aren't locked open, but I never had the need or inclination to try it. Nonetheless, it was nice to know. Nowadays, I really like Demko's Triad Lock in Cold Steel's folding knives, and I've seen those things successfully bashed through all kinds of wood while locked open. I've whacked my 4-Max Scout through some firewood just because, and it did all right. That's nice to know, too. After watching Joe X try to break a Cold Steel SR1 Lite, I thought, hey, neat tough little bugger for about-ish forty bucks. Whatever your choice, have fun with it.

I know you typically don't want to use a folder for the task of batoning wood but I'm looking for suggestions on folders that can handle the job anyway. It's for a survival pack I'm throwing together if anyone needs to know why. Thank you in advance!

There are none. The lock on a locking folding knife does not transform a folding knife into a fixed blade knife, and is not meant to be used the way you would use a fixed blade knife. The lock is there *only* to prevent accidental closure; even if your knife has a lock, you should never intentionally put stress on the lock.
